I used to think luxury meant having more.

More things.
More plans.
More places to be.

But somewhere along the way, I realized I had it completely backwards.

Luxury is having nowhere you need to be.

It’s sitting beside someone you love a little longer.

It’s watching the sun go down without checking the time.

It’s the conversation that happens when everyone finally puts their phones away.

It’s your kids. Your grandkids. Your friends. Your family.

Together.

When I created Sea Level Seating, I thought I was designing a better outdoor chair.

What I understand now is that I was really trying to create a reason for people to stay awhile.

To sit together.

To connect.

To do absolutely nothing — and not feel guilty about it.

Maybe that's what luxury has been all along.

WHAT DOES IT REALLY MEAN TO BUILD A BRAND? 🌊

Over the past few weeks, I've shared a little more about the story behind Sea Level Seating—and the response has been incredible.

I've received messages, comments and conversations that have made me stop and think about what it really means to build a brand.

I'm learning that sometimes building a brand means going back to the beginning.

So that's exactly what I'm doing.

Right now, I'm rebuilding the Sea Level Seating website.

Not because we simply need a prettier website.

Because our website needs to finally tell the same story our company does.

A story about connection.

About slowing down.

About getting outside.

About creating a space where the people we love can sit a little closer and stay a little longer.

For a long time, I focused on explaining what I created.

The patented design.

The comfort.

The portability.

The fact that the loungers connect.

All of those things matter.

But I'm realizing something:

A great product tells you what it does.
A great brand tells you why it matters.

That's the company I'm working to build.

I'm learning as I go. I'm changing things. I'm questioning things I've done for years. And yes—occasionally I'm staring at Shopify wondering what button I just pushed. 😊

But I'm loving the process.

Because for the first time, the outside of Sea Level Seating is beginning to reflect what's always been at its heart.

Connection. Comfort. Family. Hope. And time together.

I can't wait to show you what's coming.

There was a time when I wondered if I was too late.

Too late to build the company I envisioned.

Too late to take a product I believed in and turn it into something much bigger.

I'm 62.

And I've decided I'm not too late at all.

In fact, I may finally be exactly where I need to be.

I've learned that experience matters.

I've learned that knowing why you're building something matters even more.

And I've learned that a brand isn't created by having the perfect logo, the perfect website, or the perfect social media feed.

It's created by knowing what you stand for—and having the courage to stay true to it.

For Sea Level Seating, that's connection.

It's family.

It's getting outside.

It's slowing down.

It's creating a place where the people we love can sit a little closer and stay a little longer.

I'm still learning.

I'm still building.

And there are plenty of things I haven't figured out yet.

But I've never been clearer about what I want Sea Level Seating to become.

So if there's something you've been thinking about starting—or starting again—because you wonder whether your moment has passed...

Maybe it hasn't.

Maybe all those years gave you exactly what you need for what's next.

As for me?

I'm just getting started.

I'm beginning to realize I'm building something much bigger.

A brand isn't a logo, a color palette, or a beautiful photograph.

It's how you make people feel.

Sea Level Seating was created around connection—the simple idea that the people we love should be able to sit a little closer.

And as I continue building this company, I'm learning that every decision matters.

The product.

The story.

The experience.

The way we treat customers.

The causes we support.

Even the feeling someone gets when they see Sea Level Seating for the first time.

I don't want to build another outdoor chair company.

I want to build a brand that reminds people to slow down, get outside, breathe, and spend a little more time with the people who matter.

That's the brand I'm building.

And we're building it...

WHY THEY CONNECT. 🌊

People sometimes ask me why we created a lounge chair that connects to another chair.

The answer is actually very simple.

Because the people we love shouldn't feel so far away.

Sea Level Seating began with my mother's wish that beach chairs could connect so our family could sit closer together.

That simple thought eventually became a patented design—and the inspiration for what we're building today.

Our flagship lounger, The Luxury Lounger, isn't designed to keep people in their own little space.

It's designed to create one.

A space for conversation.

A space for laughter.

A space for grandparents and grandchildren.

A space for friends who haven't seen each other in too long.

A space to watch the sun disappear over the water and stay for just five more minutes.

Because when I think about the future of Sea Level Seating, I don't measure it only by how many chairs we sell.

I think about how many moments we can help bring a little closer.

That's why they connect.

And that's why we'll keep building.
