Gotta keep at least one of my own bikes in tip top form too 😁

This Haro Beasley 27.5 is my absolute favorite bike in my fleet. I need a fast bike, but I'm kinda hard-headed and stubborn, so no drop bar 2x or 3x setups for me as I prefer more upright MTB (ish) geometry, and a single front ring all the way. Original front chainring was 38-tooth and now I'm up to 44, getting dangerously close to the chainstay....I like to live a little dangerously though😫 With limited time for rides, I need this thing fast for those intense 25 to 30 minute blasts after the gym. I recently swapped to skinnier gravel tires for more speed and grip. I also changed out the front fork to carbon, and carbon bars to lighten the bike up a little bit. Since I'm usually on the smallest rear cassette cog (pedaling hard) I tore that all to heck, along with the bottom bracket. Its all repaired, tuned and upgraded, and in its best form ever. This thing is a freaking rocket ship! It does everything I ask of it (except to wash itself. Working on that:)

I was a sophomore in high school when this bike was produced. Wow - I feel old!

It deserved some TLC and some modernizing, without going too far. It still needed to have a retro vibe.

This 1997 Gary Fisher Marlin rolled into the shop looking pretty rough—the paint was in bad shape, shifting and braking were poor, and the front derailleur was clunky. I cleaned up the frame and brought the paint back to fair condition with just the right amount of patina, then upgraded it from a 3x to a 1x setup. That meant an 8-speed rear hub, 34t cassette, new derailleur, and trigger shifter (ditching the old 7-speed grip-shift and 28t cassette), plus a full tune and fresh tires and tubes. Everything’s running smooth again. These old chromoly Gary Fishers have a real following, and it feels good giving one a proper second life.

Its pretty neat getting a message like this from a special family. Ive had the pleasure of keeping these competition bikes tuned and race ready. Two youth Big Timber sponsored riders that compete in NICA and WORS, will be part of a triathlon Saturday, and a mountain bike race on Sunday. Good luck to them, pretty neat to be part of it!

Its been a while since I've posted. That darn hail storm and life events slowed progress down in my little corner of the garage. I TRULY appreciate the patience and understanding!
