The little mustang that could. Training horse- ᴄᴀᴘᴛᴀɪɴ. Just 42 days patterning and first time actually being asked for speed, although he’s on the slower side, he will make one consistent little 3/4D barrel pony!

Slow work is key for a successful career. 👏🏻

The fastest horses usually need the MOST slow work.

A lot of naturally talented horses can get by on speed for a while, but if they never learn body control, confidence, and correct fundamentals, eventually the holes start showing up. Blown turns, inconsistency, anxiety, shoulder dropping, leaving barrels flat — most of the time those issues don’t get fixed by running harder.

Slow work matters because it teaches horses how to use themselves correctly before pressure and speed get added. The goal isn’t just to have a horse that can make one flashy run. The goal is to build one that stays confident, correct, and consistent long term.

Sometimes taking a step back and slowing down is actually what allows them to move forward.

Yesterday I hauled up to Cohoctah for the first time sense Bourbon got hurt here in early 2025.. and although the feelings were high, Bourbon worked so hard for me.

Unfortunately our timer didn’t work our first run, but proof behold (thank you Chelsea David!) that it would have been a high 14s or very low 15s to win the fastest time of the day. Although I am extremely livid about the situation, I am so happy bourbon worked so hard and didn’t have a mental block going back into this arena. Unfortunately our re-run wasn’t great, he was hot, tired and pretty pi**ed off but as always, he did it for me anyways. 🖤
SHOULDA COULDA WON THE DAMN THING!

Being able to swing my leg over my favorite boy and run him is such a blessing, because I thought I’d never again.

Training horse ᴄᴀᴘᴛᴀɪɴ’s first outing as a barrel horse. We are just doing expos today so he can see the sights and feel the pressure, but he’ll be entered the next one!

ᴍɪʀᴀ is joining JKleinschmidt Performance Horses for 30 days for groundwork and then the foreseeable future to get started under saddle and fine tuned before she goes out for dressage training.

ᴍɪʀᴀ is a gorgeous Oldenburg mare I am super excited to have in for training. I absolutely love getting my hands on new breeds and truly think this mare is going to turn into a fantastic horse.

Checkout this BEFORE and AFTER on training horse, “ᴅᴀɪsʏ.”

ᴅᴀɪsʏ came in for conditioning, weight management and fine tuning.

While in training, ᴅᴀɪsʏ learned softness and collection undersaddle, working off seat, proper body engagement, proper hind end engagement and extension, posting trot without trying to canter, smooth transitions solely off seat between gaits/slowing down, correct leads going into the canter, picking up the canter from a walk, a more level head carriage in the canter, sliding stop, pivoting, mild lateral work, softening the nose and picking up shoulders, going down the road solo, standing for vehicles even after passing, trailer loading/self loading, unloading quietly, and standing tied without anxiety away from friends.

ᴅᴀɪsʏ has definitely had a hard time working through her attitude and not getting everything she wants (she has her owners number) but has definitely made a significant amount of progress in her stay. I am truly looking forward to her and her owners summer this year! Hopefully they hit the trails as much as possible now that ᴅᴀɪsʏ girl is loading like she should.
