🔥 TROUT • DOLLIES • GRAYLING
This fishery is only going to get BETTER from here until freeze-up — well into OCTOBER!

As the salmon wrap things up, just follow those trout, dollies and grayling down as they start dropping out of the systems. Beads, flesh, streamers — keep that box ready because fall fishing in Alaska is hard to beat!

🐟 SILVERS
There are still some silvers around to be caught! Same opportunities as last week — Jim Creek, Fish Creek, Cottonwood Creek on weekends, and the Eklutna Tailrace.

Make sure you’re checking current regs and Emergency Orders before heading out.

🏔️ KENAI + QUARTZ CREEK
Quartz Creek is fishing GREAT right now, as is the Kenai. If you’ve been waiting for that fall trout trip… this is your sign.

🎣 STEELHEAD SEASON!
Don’t forget — the steelhead fishery is starting to kick off! Another reason fishing season is FAR from over.

🫎 HUNTING SEASON 🤝 FISHING SEASON
Heading out chasing moose? BRING A ROD!

When the moose are taking their midday nap… drop a line. 😂🎣

A lot of hunting country puts you right next to some incredible fall fishing. Trout, grayling, pike — your fishing gear doesn’t have to stay home just because hunting season is here!

🍂 The days might be getting shorter, but FISHING SEASON ISN’T OVER. Some of the best trout, dolly and grayling fishing of the entire year is still ahead of us.

Stop into 3 Rivers Fly & Tackle and get geared up for the rivers, … or the moose woods. 🎣🫎

There is STILL SO MUCH FISHING YET TO DO!

🎣🐊 Throw a rod on the gear list!
A lot of you are heading into country with some PRIME fishing opportunities. Pike, grayling and sheefish could be right there waiting for you. Grab a few lures or flies before you head out and turn a hunting trip into a fishing trip too.

🚨 EMERGENCY ORDER 🚨
-COHO CLOSURE 🚫

Effective 12:01 AM Wednesday, August 19, ADF&G is prohibiting the retention of coho (silver) salmon 16 inches or greater throughout the Susitna and Little Susitna River drainages for the remainder of 2026.

🎣 What you need to know:
• NO RETENTION of coho salmon 16”+ — catch & release only
• NO BAIT in flowing waters of the Susitna & Little Susitna drainages
• ARTIFICIAL LURES ONLY

As of August 17, only 1,385 coho have passed the Little Susitna weir, with a projected escapement of 2,104 fish — well below the sustainable escapement goal of 9,200–17,700.

⚠️ This goes into effect WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 19.

Please read the full Emergency Order, know the regulations for the water you’re fishing, and stay up to date — things can change quickly this time of year.

🎣 You can still fish — you just can’t keep those silvers.

Tight lines, be good to the rivers, and handle released fish with care! 🎣

🎣 WEEKLY FISHING REPORT | BETTER LATE THAN NEVER!

The salmon may be running a little behind schedule this year… but THEY’RE HERE! 🙌🐟

🩷 Pinks & Chums are showing up in GOOD numbers throughout the Parks Hwy streams:
📍 Willow Creek
📍 Sheep Creek
📍 Little Willow
📍 Caswell Creek
📍 Montana Creek

💧 Water levels are looking just about perfect and we’ve got SUNSHINE in the forecast! ☀️ Hard to ask for a better excuse to get out and fish!

🎣 WHAT’S WORKING?

We’ve got locally made spoons in the shop ready for salmon fishing!

Fly anglers — come load up on Dolly Llamas in assorted colors. Deuce Bigalow has been a hitter on the streams lately! And if you’re looking for an extra challenge, come grab some flies and try getting those silvers on topwater! 👀🔥

And remember… where there are salmon, the trout and grayling are too! Time to break out those beads!

👧🧒 KIDS DAY — SATURDAY, AUGUST 15!
The Eklutna Tailrace Youth-Only Coho Fishery runs 6 AM–6 PM. Take those kiddos fishing, make some memories and let THEM have the hot spot for a day! 🎣❤️

⚠️ IMPORTANT COHO REMINDER:
The limit is ONE SILVER per day — and if you retain that silver, YOU ARE DONE FISHING FOR THE DAY. Period. 🛑

So make that silver the LAST fish you keep and the LAST thing you do before packing it up! Get your trout, grayling, pinks and chums fishing in first… then if you put a silver in the cooler, call it a day!

📖 CHECK THE REGS & EMERGENCY ORDERS before you go.
🗑️ Clean up your mess.
🌲 Leave the river better than you found it.
🤝 Give your fellow anglers some room.

The fish are here. The water is good. The sun is coming.

GO FISHING! 🎣☀️

🎣 AJ’s Two Cents | Emergency Orders

Another day… another set of Emergency Orders for Upper Cook Inlet.

Effective August 6 through September 30, ADF&G has reduced the coho salmon limit to one fish per day in the Susitna drainage and prohibited the use of bait in affected waters, including new restrictions on the Little Susitna River.

These changes are important for every angler planning a trip, so be sure you understand the regulations before heading out.

But this video isn’t just about what changed.

AJ shares his thoughts on the bigger picture…why we continue to see Emergency Orders, what they may say about the state of our fisheries, and why these conversations matter to everyone who cares about Alaska’s future.

Whether you agree or disagree, we’d love to hear your perspective. Let’s keep the conversation respectful and focused on what we all want: healthy, sustainable fisheries for generations to come.

🎣 Have questions about the new regulations? Stop by the shop—we’re always happy to help.
