You can practice with Cate on Mondays at 5:30PM at the studio, and you can also practice paddleboard yoga with her throughout the summer. Three dates left this summer (THIS Saturday!, Sept. 9, and 19th). Sign up on mindbody, or on our website at www.collectiveyogavb.com
WHAT BROUGHT YOU TO YOGA?
I had a lower back injury about 15 years ago when I gave birth to my first child, and when I went to a physical therapist they said I would be in physical therapy for a year. Then I went to a power yoga class at Studio Bamboo and I was able to lift my baby right after class - it was a significant emotional event for me, and I have been hooked on yoga ever since.
WHEN DID YOU START TEACHING?
I got my certification in 2013 from Studio Bamboo; I chose them because of their focus on anatomy and building strength out of flexibility.
WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE PART ABOUT PRACTICING YOGA?
Yoga empowers me to be a better teacher so that I can help others expand their practice. It’s very rewarding for me to challenge myself so that I can help others grow and also heal. There is self-healing in yoga and I want to share the ability to self-heal injuries where we can; that could be in the mind or the body, through breathing, through meditation, through focus, and through the practice of asanas, or positions.
WHAT WOULD YOU LIKE YOUR STUDENTS TO LEAVE CLASS WITH?
I want my students to have a total body experience, to really ground into the present moment and realize that they can let go of any mental hurdles that they may have. And to recognize that they are only mental hurdles, and by calming the fluctuations of the body, we calm them the fluctuations of the mind.
WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE ASPECT OF YOGA TO TEACH?
I really like to teach in-depth workshops so I immerse myself in various positions or practices, such as stand-up paddle yoga. I also enjoy providing step-by-step cues and guidance to work towards any posture that a student wants to reach.
ANY FINAL THOUGHTS, TIPS, OR ADVICE TO SHARE?
My advice would be to just practice. Practice with as many teachers as you can because it will help you grow in your yoga practice.
