After having some hands on time with the GoPro Mission 1 Pro ILS (interchangeable lens system), we have come to the unfortunate conclusion that it probably is not a good fit for most folks in the baseball/softball industry. Here's a quick video with our findings. I hope this is helpful.

As we continue to see more and more customers leaning their expensive cameras up against a net backstop, we decided to step up and help. While we still feel, whenever possible, the Legacy LynkSpyder bracket offers the most protection for your camera, we do understand that not everyone wants to deal with rubber coating the claws to protect the net. And since the cheap off-shore knock offs are basically sharp knives, we also understand facility owners prohibiting anything mounted on their net.

The BullNose is designed to accommodate most small to medium cameras and phones that have a standard 1/4"-20 threaded tripod mount. And while we are not currently producing a magnet or pole mount, the BullNose is designed to mount to any existing arm style mount or tripod.

In addition to the strong 14 gauge stainless steel protection you have come to expect from LynkSpyder, BullNose comes with and is compatible with our standard rubber Net Cap. The Net Cap snaps in our standard security window and is designed to contain the net and prevent it from walking in front of your lens.

The BullNose is now available in limited quantity in our store.

If you happen to use a Chinese router, specifically the ZBT brand (AX3000 is a common one), be aware that it was just discovered that these devices have been shipped with a back door that is a cybersecurity breach. The devices are communicating back home to a Chinese registered domain.

Twenty router models sold on Amazon, AliExpress, and Alibaba ship with a remote-control implant enabled by default. It runs as root, it uses no encryption, and it authenticates nobody. Whoever answers the phone owns the device.

I have followed Destin over at Smarter Every Day for years. A brilliant engineer that could also have been the best teacher you ever had. All of his content is thoughtful, well made, and always educational. But this specific video literally brought me to tears multiple times, given my passion for domestic manufacturing. Made in the USA is such an important process that our society is freely allowing to wither away. So why the USA? Is it because the USA is better than the rest of the world? (Some of you know my thoughts on "better"... but that's another lesson). Better has nothing to do with it. Because we live here is what makes it important. If you would rather call it "Made Where We Live", lets do that. We as a society are so addicted to cheap crap that we are pricing ourselves into submission to an enemy that wants nothing more than the destruction of a free society. No one is coming to save us. We have to do better. But in order to do so, we need more folks like Destin who do such a great job of explaining complicated things in a way that we can all understand and relate. Such a blessing!

Today we are testing out the GoPro Media Mod for the Mission 1 Pro camera. In this test we are using the onboard media mod microphones with the "dead cat" wind reducer in place. While not a big fan of the Media Mod's in the past. This one has some decent upgrades.

Since we are in the shop today, I thought it would be a good opportunity to test the GoPro USB to HDMI feeding a ZowieBox encoder. Ultimately, this kind of setup would be the most viable in the field. We have turned the gain down on the GoPro camera. But sorry of that doesn't compensate for the loud shop. We have a lot of things going at the moment. This is a 1080p/60 Stream and using the FaceBook producer system to push to this group. If you happen to drop by, give a shout out to MARVIN the robot. He's working far harder than all of us.

Day 2, testing out the new 2.0 firmware in the GoPro Mission 1 Pro, taking advantage of the new USB-C to HDMI capability. This was fed to an iPad via an HDMI to USB-C capture card, and produced in Mevo Camera Studio software.

Pretty good results. The audio quality, from my Shokz isn't great. But I think that is more related to the headphones themselves. In future tests, we will add a USB Hub so we can add power, HDMI out, as well as USB audio (and a better mic).

But I think the video output appears better today when setting the camera to 4K vs 8K. That is what we will be testing and comparing.

I know it looks like we forgot about the GoPro Mission 1 Pro since we haven't updated the rolling review in over a month. But we were waiting on some features GoPro finally made available today:

As of today, the GoPro Media Mod is available for this camera. As we are currently not recommending any GoPro for native streaming (disconnection issue still not addressed), external HDMI to a streaming encoder is a great alternate option. The Media Mod allows for this.

But just as (if not more) exciting, the capability to capture HDMI from USB-C is now available, with the new 2.0 Firmware dropped today as well. We have done some initial testing and can report that it works! As usual, it comes with a few catches. And we talk about that a bit in our Rolling Review:

I (Josh) recently had a healthy conversation with a potential customer on why they should buy LynkSpyder over the cheaper Chinese knock offs. While we are understanding of our customer's financial situation, one easy justification is that giving thieves your credit card information just seems like a bad idea to me. But a more practical reason is material. We use laser cut 304 stainless steel that we go to great lengths (using manual and robotic methods) to debur and polish. China uses stamped aluminum. And they do nothing to address sharp edges. In addition to aluminum being no match for stainless steel for strength and support, China is the worlds largest forced labor producer of aluminum. So yes, China can sell a cheaper product by using stolen intellectual property, cheaper materials, and slave labor. But it's up to you to decide what 20 bucks is worth.
