Contra dancing is a form of dancing that is often described as the best of square dancing and swing dancing combined. You get to do-si-do and allemand, as well as swing ballroom style. Contra dancing and other folk dancing have been staples in the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia for decades. In 2016 the non-profit dance organization SVCD was formed to organize and continue the long-running Dayton Co

ntra Dance and the Monday Night Contra Dance. SVCD is a member of the national Country Dance and Song Society and is committed to community development and connection through dance.
