New board design breakthrough: I was contemplating a board that would offer the kind of surfing Andy Irons would do if he were alive and in his prime today, mixed with Ethan Ewing’s rail work and Pete Mendia’s raw power. I’m calling it the WMD (weapon of mass destruction…the good kind), in fact I firmly believe that if everyone had a WMD, there would no longer be any wars. Everybody would be happy and be able to get their aggressions out all at the same time. Anyway, enough philosophizing…the new design features a wide point pulled further back with plenty of curve leading into the fins. The rocker also apexes further back between the feet, yet with a tipped back descent in the stringerline rocker just ahead of the front foot, equating to unparalleled drive. The entry is a straighter shot with less curve so it funnels water towards the fins in a more direct path and yet has overall more rocker throughout than any of my previous performance shortboard designs. The tail rocker has an increased 1/32” at the fins and an extra 1/16” exiting the tail from the previous X-15 and X-20/30 models, giving it a tighter whippier power arc. May sound like small increments, but the slightest tweaks can make all the difference in the world.
