Another mature bird , in the dirt!! Funny story, so I was making a quick run back to Michigan for a few days. The Week Pryor I spoke with Nick about coming out to hunt Nebraska if he punched his Iowa tag. We
discussed this the week before but we never locked things down. So we left it up in the air. I never heard back so I assumed his plans changed. Well after getting on the road for 4 hours I get a phone call from Nick wanting to come up still. I m thinking ( well s**t). I ve made commitments back home , so now what to do…. After talking to Nick ( more like an interview over the phone lol) I realized that he’s a pretty independent hunter, trustworthy on respecting the land, and will definitely trust on what we suggest . Like where to hunt, mid morning spots, certain movement patterns, etc. Obviously he ll adjust when and where it’s needed. So he arrives at camp. I tell him how to open up school house, turn heat, water on etc. Arriving at camp a day before his hunt starts, he gets there early so might as well get him in the woods. So I explain a nice high percentage spot for birds and lots of regular activity going on. He’s there literally a hour and half and calls in a great tom and unfortunately ends up missing . (Misjudged the distance he says). So he packs up and goes to another spot for evening hunt . We give him directions etc, he ends up seeing another tom w few jakes and hens but no shots. The next day (start of his hunt) was bit slower. Not much action but ends up roosting 3 Toms and few hens. We discuss morning gameplay , what the birds should do coming off roost etc . Well hoping they do something close that is . So He gets set up this morning and after a few hours , (with some fine tuning) he hammers this beautiful bird!!! CONGRATS AGAIN on a great bird and thanks for TRUSTING us on where to hunt to get you into the zone so you can dial in on them !!! Great team work my friend.
