Finished Book #289 since July 1990 “The Golden Era of Amateur Wrestling: 1980s" by Reginald E. Rowe. I always enjoy reading about wrestling but this book was a little bit long on the statistics and short on the stories for me. In the author’s defense he was arguing that the decade of the 1980s was the greatest era of amateur wrestling in the U.S. and the stats he meticulously recorded helped his case. He did include stories and personal testimonials from the wrestlers of the 1980s and I enjoyed those. I finished my wrestling in the 1970s but I did follow wrestling closely in the 1980s and it was a great decade for wrestling in the U.S. I am not sure about how it fits within the decades but I do believe the current era of amateur wrestling in the U.S. has probably surpassed even the 1980s. The copyright for this book was 2016 so the author could not have considered the current era. Well if any wrestlers happen to read this I would love to read your thoughts on wrestling in the 1980s and what era you think is the greatest in U.S. amateur wrestling.
