Echo, echo, echoooo - anyone? 😅😘

One of the things I say most often in class is:

“Don’t clench your butt.”

Every single time, at least a few people laugh…

…and then quietly unclench their butt.

Turns out, most of us have been standing around gripping for no reason at all.

There’s something wonderfully comforting about realizing you’re not the only one.

Just a room full of humans, being human.

We glorify independence until it destroys us. Then we call the destruction a character flaw.

A study published in the Journal of Counseling Psychology found that self-stigma around help-seeking was the strongest barrier to accessing mental health support, stronger even than cost or availability. People would rather suffer in silence than risk appearing weak.

But the research on help-seeking tells the opposite story. People who ask for support recover faster, report higher life satisfaction, and show greater resilience over time. Asking for help is not a failure of strength. It's an act of intelligence.

In my practice, the bravest patients I've known are the ones who walked through the door and said, "I can't do this alone." That sentence changed their trajectory more than any supplement or procedure ever could.

Your ability to carry pain silently is not a virtue. It's a survival strategy that's outlived its usefulness. You are allowed to set the weight down.

The people who love you aren't waiting for you to be perfect. They're waiting for you to be honest.

This is the most common excuse I hear. And it's the most backwards one.

A systematic review published in the International Journal of Yoga by Woodyard found that regular yoga practice improved flexibility, strength, and balance while simultaneously reducing cortisol, blood pressure, and markers of chronic inflammation.

You don't need to be flexible to start yoga. Yoga is how you become flexible. Stiffness is the invitation, not the disqualification.

Yoga isn't about the shape your body makes. It's about the conversation between your breath and your tension. Every exhale is your body releasing what it no longer needs.

And the benefits go far beyond flexibility. Reduced anxiety. Better sleep. Improved balance that prevents falls. Lower blood pressure. These aren't side effects. They're the main event.

Your body isn't too stiff for yoga. It's stiff because it's been waiting for you to move it gently, consistently, without judgment.

Sometimes the most radical act of self-care is simply… letting it go.

The comment.
The awkward moment.
The thing you replayed in the shower six hours later.
The situation that is absolutely not worth the energy it’s currently renting in your head.

Take a note from the horse.

They don’t spiral about what happened yesterday.
They don’t overanalyse the look someone gave them.
They don’t lie awake at 3am reliving a spook from 2014.

They shake.
They breathe.
They carry on eating grass like nothing happened.

So if today feels heavy, annoying, or mildly unhinged
pause, breathe, unclench your jaw,
and channel some calm, cross-legged horse energy.

You don’t need to fix everything.
You don’t need the last word.
You don’t need to carry it all.

Just… let that sh*t go 🐴🧘‍♀️✨

Yoga strong 💪🏻

A 2013 meta-analysis in Depression and Anxiety pooled randomized trials of yoga for depression and anxiety. The results were significant and clinically meaningful. Yoga reduced symptoms across diverse populations, with effects comparable to other established interventions.

But yoga does more than ease the mind. It builds postural strength, balance, joint mobility, and respiratory capacity. It teaches the nervous system to slow down on command.

These are not lesser forms of fitness. They are the foundations.

I had a patient who lifted heavy weights for years and developed chronic shoulder pain. Her physical therapist sent her to yoga. Within months, her pain was gone, her sleep improved, and her blood pressure dropped.

She told me, almost embarrassed, that yoga felt too easy to count.

I told her that what she was actually building was harder than any barbell. She was learning to stay present in a body she had spent years pushing.

Strength that does not break under stress is real strength.

A breath that stays steady when life accelerates is real strength.

A lot of people are taught to relate to the body like something to fix.

Make it smaller.
More flexible.
Less tired.
More acceptable.

Yoga offers a different relationship.

Not a project to manage,
but a conversation to stay in.

Breath becomes feedback.
Sensation becomes information.
Limits stop being failures and start becoming part of the dialogue.

Over time, the body feels less like a problem to solve
and more like something you can actually listen to.
