May has become my favorite month of the year due to the diversity it offers. Inland and big water smallmouth, dry fly and streamer fishing for brown trout and my unofficial opener of musky season. Fortunately for us in Northern Michigan there's always something to chase until the lakes freeze.

Had a great time with Jack and Robin who came in for 3 days of bass fishing. Some attempts were made with the fly rod but all of our fish came on gear. 1 horrible day and 2 good days fishing the bays and inland.

I've been playing with prespawn smallmouth, the Power R8, and some prototype sink tips. I prefer a 250 grain line on the 8wt but it definitely has the power for a 300 grain. There is plenty of power in the bottom half of the rod, but enough flex in the tip to fish a true line size. It'll be getting a workou for the next few weeks.

Great time last fall with Feno. Ball Licker husky was the go to bait for multiple weeks. Gonna be a few weeks still till the lakes open up so flipping through old clips is gonna have to do
