Competitive team is absolutely optional. I'll even take it a step further, at Solar, the gymnastics team and trampoline/tumbling team competitions are optional. In a world of uncertainty we still want the athletes to experience the benefits that our competitive sports can offer without breaking the bank and family time.
One thing I have learned over the years is that "pretty" costs a lot. I have learned there are ways to keep "pretty" and keep it pretty darn cheap in comparison to many! While I try to keep it maintainable, it's not cupcakes and rainbows. But we do whatever we can to help make it possible!
