“The first time I ever was introduced to roller derby was when I lived in Hawaii and somebody asked me if I had ever played. I didn’t even know what roller derby was so I started to look into it and went and watched a bout, but not long after that I ended up moving to Kansas. After a couple years of being here, I I thought about roller derby again and wondered if there was a team anywhere close to where I lived. And I attended my first capital city crushers roller derby bout and decided it was something I wanted to try.”

“I joined the crushers in 2016 but with covid time I am starting my 8th season of roller derby.”

“My favorite thing about roller derby is how it doesn’t matter how big or small or short or tall you are, there is a place for everyone on the track because every different body type has different strengths and weaknesses. So it’s a beautiful mixture all different types of people. Everyone has a place here.”

“Picking a favorite food is like picking a favorite child, it’s very difficult to do. But I will tell you my favorite dessert is my family’s homemade carrot cake. We have spent years perfecting it and I have never tasted a carrot cake as good as ours. Not homemade, not restaurants, not store-bought. I’ve never had one that measures up to ours. Lol”

“Since I have a 5-year-old, I don’t really have much of a game day routine other than all of a sudden realizing that I probably should be leaving to head to the rink in about 15 minutes and I’m not dressed or ready yet. So then I have to race around to get things ready and then on my drive listen to some sort of good pump up music.”
