Tomahawk area runners took to the track on Saturday for the inaugural Hatchet Mid-Summer Mile, battling hot temperatures and even hotter competition at Hatchet Field.

Good morning racers and race fans! Today is the day. It’s a bit hot out here today so stay cool, hydrated, and apply that sunscreen! Gates open at 4:30…racing starts at 5:30 with the Kids 400m run sponsored by Big Bear Mini Golf & Ice Cream

Some notes: It's going to be hot, show up prepared and hydrated, undertaking a race like this is hard even in perfect 55 degree weather, heat and humidity doesn't make it any easier, also note that the bleachers will more than likely be hot a towel or two may not be the worst thing in the world to bring with you.

Make sure you show up and Check in at the side of the concession stand as early as you can, but try to be there at least an hour before your race in order to get a solid warmup in and of course to make sure our meet staff can accurately send the right racers to the line.

Speaking of which, racers will enter the track at the gate located at the North end of the bleachers and staged at the benches near the start line. You will be moved to the start line when it's time to line up for your race! Good Luck!!!!

Vested milers you will be responsible for bringing the vest in which you need to race in same as you would for Murph. I don't have any vests on hand so bring that 14 or 20lb vest with you.

I am sure there are more notes to come but am looking forward hosting the inaugural meet.
