Sauratown Trails Association

Sauratown Trails Association The Sauratown Trail is a unique 22.20 mile bridle and hiking trail, connecting Hanging Rock and Pilot Mountain State Parks. Park service.

It is also an official section of the NC Mountains-to-Sea Trail, and it is maintained by the Sauratown Trails Association. The Sauratown Trail (ST) is a unique 22.20 mile bridle and hiking trail, which is also an official section of the NC Mountains-to-Sea Trail. The trail begins at the Tories Den parking area of Hanging Rock State Park and runs in a general WSW direction to the Surry Line parkin

g area of Pilot Mountain State Park. The ST was built, and is maintained, by the volunteer efforts of the Sauratown Trails Association (STA), an equestrian group. The STA also maintains two loop trails which branch off of the ST, a trail center, a spur trail to the trail center, and three parking areas spaced at intervals along the trail. The two parking areas that anchor each end of the ST are maintained by the N.C. The total STA trail system exceeds 30 miles, and is connected to dozens of miles of park trails at each end. One can now hike from the Dan River to the Yadkin River, a distance of nearly forty miles. The ST is well designed, with many switchbacks, so that even the steeper sections are not too strenuous, even for casual hikers. Numerous combinations of short hikes are available, so that one can make as much or as little of an outing as desired.

Sauratown Trail Association group trail ride was a big success. The weather was perfect, the scenery was gorgeous, and lunch at the end was delicious. We parked at the Vade Mecum parking lot. The directions to that lot are on our website.

Landowner Appreciation Dinner was last night. Pintos, cornbread, and fried taters were prepared by Phil and Tammie Barber. The Sauratown trail is possible because of the landowners generosity. The hikers and horseback riders have a beautiful trail so this is one way we show our appreciation.
