Just an example of how Edgardo coaches his players in not only his group sessions but also as a guest coach.

For him, it’s all about the fundamentals and being able to play with confidence and competence under pressure, which shows in this clip from one of the games he coached.

We work together to help players play with confidence and autonomy within their development while growing in their tactical knowledge.

It’s really common for young athletes to be very broad with their goals or be unsure on what they need to work on.

This post is to give some clarity on what goal setting can look like and I hope it can also help with motivation.

If you don’t know what you need to work on, be open to asking your coach or people who train you. It’s all about being open minded to getting feedback so you have direction and clarity.

If you want more help with this, click the link in my bio and look under “free resources” to get a goal setting guide.

I wanted to provide and easy way to reflect after your games that will actually help you. It’s all about understanding your moments, learning from them, and building from there.

Gaining awareness from self reflection and honest criticism is the thing that is going to help you understand what you need to work on and build that motivation to improve.

Go to my bio and download a free helpful PDF for your game reflections.

It’s not just about confidence, but the little things you do to give yourself confidence.

The biggest thing you can learn that will help you in the long run is developing a growth mindset and being curious in how to improve yourself as an athlete.

Learning this is what will give you consistent confidence.

A common experience that I think is worth addressing.

I’ll try and make this short:

Give things time to develop. New environments are always hard but you have the ability to control the controllable.

Learn to immerse yourself in the environment, especially if you’re wanting to play abroad in the future.

Be open minded and learn from others while building relations and chemistry with teammates and coaches.

You aren’t alone in this! This is a common experience and if you have questions about this, please don’t hesitate to reach out! I’ll be happy to answer and questions you may have.

This is one of the biggest misconceptions I see when it comes to helping players with their confidence.

Especially at a young age, confidence comes from understanding. When players understand what they need to do, how to solve game situations, and the way the coach wants them to play, then they have the confidence and competence to play.

When players don’t have any of this, it leads to coaches yelling at the player or even tell them (or their parents) that they aren’t good enough and lack confidence and need to grow mental toughness.

I’m hoping this post helps give clarity to parents on what they can do and what to consider before booking these types of services.

This is more common than you think and I hope this gives a bit more clarity to parents and players that have been experiencing this type of feedback from coaches

I know there is pressure to be on a “good/high level” club team in youth, but you have to think about the overall picture of the situation and what your player wants to achieve.

Like I said before, game time and learning from experience is the best type of development as a kid and it also makes the sport enjoyable…to actually play it.
