Moccasin Stables kicked off its summer program for 2026 with a group of young riders who were largely inexperienced in horse riding. The program's structure included an introduction to basic horsemanship, exposure to the beauty of horses, and riding sessions towards the end of the week. The notable progress exhibited by the campers was delightful to observe. Our appreciation goes to the counselors who have demonstrated remarkable dedication, many of whom leveraged their experience as former participants in beginner camps to excel in their roles after nearly six years of growth within Moccasin Stables' programs.

Since the rain decided to stick around, we’re putting this arena puddle to good use. The lesson horse is getting some great exercise splashing through the water. It’s fantastic for building muscle and supporting old injuries, so we’re making the most of it.

Horses teach children confidence, patience, emotional control, responsibility, and trust. They can feel nervousness, fear, excitement, and calmness almost instantly, which means every lesson becomes an opportunity for children to learn how to regulate their emotions and communicate without words.

When a child learns to lead a horse, they are also learning to:
