The Ladies Golf Association at SSCC has been the biggest supporters of our program since I have been coaching. From donating practice equipment, golf balls, rain gear, hats, pullovers, polos, and anything else we needed. Rhonda Underwood would call and ask "Coach, what do y'all need", I'd let her know and within a few weeks it would be delivered. On top of that, the LGA works tirelessly to put on an excellent 'Legacy Tournament' to raise money for a fundraiser named after a long time LGA member Jan James who was a huge supporter of junior golf. This scholarship has benefited so many LadyCat golfers in the past 20 years.

Congratulations to Evey Birdsong being named this years recipient! Evey leaves in August to continue her golf career at McMurray University!

Thursday evening we had our Boys Golf Banquet and it went perfectly! We want to give a huge thank you to Sulphur Springs Country Club for hosting us and providing the amazing food for the evening, Blended Bakery (Kallie Lightbody) for wonderful desserts, and Shindig Supply (Kaley Lyday) for the great balloons for the photos. Y’all made this night very special and amazing for the guys and their families!

This was not only a night to celebrate this year’s accomplishments but the lasting legacy that these amazing seniors have left on the program. 4 consecutive District Titles, 1 Regional Title, 3x Regional Runner-up finishes, 4 consecutive times qualifying for State, and two Top-5 finishes at State (one being a 3rd place finish). We cannot thank these guys and their families enough for everything they have given to this program in the four years they represented Sulphur Springs with honor, integrity, and grit!

As for the 2025-2026 MVP, this award went to not only one person but three amazing young men. These three have been on varsity all 4 years, been the team captains for 3 years, broken several school records and cemented not only their legacy but the team’s legacy in Sulphur Springs athletics history. Besides the record books never forgetting them, they have left their mark off the course with how they represented themselves, their families, and the Sulphur Springs community. Nick Burney, Gage Gideon, and Luke White are your 2025-2026 SSHS Boys Golf MVP’s!

This past week your LadyCat golfers finished 10th at the state tournament! 10th out of all 4A schools in the state! With such a young crew this year, BIG things are to come! 👀

This year though we say goodbye to our senior Evey Birdsong. We will be rooting for her as she takes her golf game to the next level at McMurray! ❤️

Ramsey Ragan - 32nd place

Sara Washburn - 58th place
Ryan Ragan - 66th place
Josey Perkins - 71st place

Big things are still to come with this young crew. Next years goals: District champions, Regional Champions, top 5 at state! 💪🏽 Watch for these girls the 26-27 season! For now that is a wrap for the 25-26 girls golf season!

On Tuesday evening at the Senior Awards, Nick Burney was awarded the James Cameron Fighting Heart Award. This award is presented to a senior athlete that demonstrated great character, work ethic, grit, heart, and the ability to compete at a high level. Throughout his four years as a varsity player and three years as a captain of the golf program, he embodies this award so well! Congratulations Nick, well deserved!

Nick joins his Grandfather (Bryan Burney), Dad (Zach Burney), and Uncle (Alex Burney) as recipients of this prestigious award!

Two weeks ago we had our Girls Golf Banquet! We celebrated a little early since our state tournament is so close to graduation! I want to give a huge thank you to Brad and Terry Morris for hosting and providing the team meal! Everything was amazing! ❤️

This years Girls Golf MVP goes to our senior Evey Birdsong! She has put in four years of hard work and dedication to this program. District runner up her freshman, sophomore and junior years and then capping her senior year off with a district individual championship. All Region Team her junior and senior year. State qualifier all four years. What an incredible resume! 🙌🏼 we are going to miss you, and can't wait to follow along with you next year at McMurray!
