Tech tip. We have seen several Terrovas and Power Drives with damaged shafts. Just so you are aware, Minn Kota has a section in the owner’s manual that addresses the recommended adjusting of the lower unit for a secure stow. It notes that “when the Motor is stowed, the Lower Unit should rest on the Fall Away Ramps.” It is recommended to secure the motor using the provided instructions to avoid damage. One particular overlooked piece of this is the notice that states “…Slide the Depth Collar down and secure it against the top of the Steering Housing when stowed to secure the motor in place and prevent accidental deployment.” This is a simply solution to avoid a costly repair.

So which upgrade would you choose first: new trolling motor, forward-facing sonar, lithium batteries, or larger displays? Would love to hear your thoughts and experience.

Wanted to share some information and recommendations based on several questions or issues we saw this last month. So, your fish finder(s) or trolling motor is not working quite right and you’re thinking it’s the unit itself. What we sometimes see is that it is not the actual fish finder or trolling motor that has the issue. Low voltage, undersized wire, poor grounds and bad connections can cause significant electronics problems. If your sonar shuts down when you start the motor, or you’re not getting the image you think you should, or your trolling motor keeps dropping out, it’s a good idea to have the electrical system checked before replacing equipment. Stop by or give us a call to get checked out.
