Today was one of those days that stays with you long after the season ends. Our girls completed their 3rd annual service project at a local retirement community…something we look forward to each year, and something many of the residents look forward to even more.
Last night, the team came together and crafted 50 softball snowmen…a tornado of felt, hot glue, ribbon, a taco bar, and laughter. The mess was impressive… but the mission made it more than worth it. This morning, we made a visit to deliver our creations to 50 residents, each one receiving a little handmade joy.
Some of these wonderful residets haven’t had visitors in years. Some don’t have family near. But today, they had a hallway full of smiling Advanced Fastpitch Academy AFA Vasquez 18U softball players who showed up with open hearts.
Over the years, we’ve built a tradition of giving:
🎄 Year 1: Decorated and delivered wreaths
🎅 Year 2: Crafted 30 rice-sock gnomes
🥎 ⛄ Year 3: Handmade 50 softball snowmen
And every year brings unforgettable moments:
Some residents dance with the girls in the halls.
Some ask for selfies. Some offer a quiet smile, others a joyous, loud “thank you!”. But every single one is grateful beyond words.
Our players learned big life lessons today…how to talk to strangers with kindness, how to connect with adults, and the importance of giving back to a generation that has given so much to our community.
We are so proud of their hearts, their compassion, and the way they show up, on and off the field. ❤️🥎
This is what it’s all about. Happy Holidays!!
