Capped off a fun-filled weekend with a 10th place chicken and 3rd place pork at Day 2 of Boo-B-Que. we managed to break 700, but in a stacked field of many of the best cooks in North America, it was only good enough for 14th today.

Congratulations to our friends from Meat Candy Q on a monster GC and our buddy Joe Pearce from Slap's BBQ on an impressive RGC!

So many people work their tails off to make this one of the best events on the circuit, and we are so grateful that they do! Can’t wait until next year!

Boo-B-Que awards day 2

Happy to be “falling back” an hour tonight after an action-packed day at Boo-B-Que in Oak Grove. This is always one of our favorite contests…not only because it is run by some of our favorite people and because it’s close to home, and because it raises money for amazingly deserving charities, but also because it draws many of the best teams in the world year after year. Today was no exception. We navigated the gauntlet and managed:

8th place 🐓
31st place ribs (oof)
7th place 🐖
3rd place brisket

We hoped that was enough, but our good buddy Rob from BIGG SMOAK BBQ edged us out today for a big time GC. Congrats to him! RGC in this field is nothing to sneeze at, so we’ll take it!

The girls went head to head in KidsQue today, too, serving up pork chops provided by Prairie Fresh. Both girls’ chops turned out great, and today was Barbecutie’s day as she edged out her sister in 4th place with an impressive 2nd place entry…sandwiched between the Heyen boys from Triple H BBQ in 1st and 3rd.

Time for some shut eye and we’ll run it back tomorrow for Day 2!

Boo-B-Que awards day 1

Weekends like this last one are good for the soul. We made the most of every minute of our trip to Branson for the 2nd annual Grills Gone Wild contest at Rock Lane Resort and Marina. With two birthdays to celebrate and the most idyllic weather of the whole season, we ate, drank and boated like rockstars.

Oh yeah, and we cooked a contest while we were at it. We were happier with our cook than the judges apparently were, other than brisket…which is the comeback story of the season! Another 180…guess the adjustments are working!

Huge congrats to our great friends Drew and Chelsey from Razorracks BBQ on the GC and to Chase Willard of Squealin' N Dealin' BBQ on the RGC.

If you have been following us for a while, you are no doubt familiar with our love of Big Blue River Days in Marysville, KS. 2026 marked our 9th year cooking in Marysville, and you could say we have gotten pretty attached to the town and its people. So much so, that we decided to make our mark there permanent by sponsoring one of the famous black squirrel statues. 🐿️

We weren’t able to make it to the unveiling today, but luckily our friend Liz was available and stood in to do the honor of revealing Jamie Sweet’s awesome design.

We are looking forward to seeing Smoky in person soon. You can see him, too, if you come to the Big Blue BBQ next June (you should…it’s awesome). He’ll be the one shigging from out behind the end of our patio.

Rock Lane Resort and Marina

There could be worse things to be doing on a beautiful weekend. I guess we will just have to rough it on the banks of Table Rock lake in Branson with perfect weather.

Thank you to everyone that reached out with texts, calls, and messages on the book of faces to wish me a happy birthday.

Now it is time to get done what we came here to do. Good luck to everyone cooking this weekend!

Back up and on the road home from Sunland Park. Trying to make it back in time to pick the girls up from school.

Yesterday we put together another solid cook and were rewarded with 2nd place ribs and 13th place brisket. The other two meats didn’t walk, but didn’t trip us up too badly and we came away with 8th place overall. If we could figure out how to put Saturday’s big meats together with yesterday’s ribs, we’d be in good shape!

Huge congrats to our good friends from Janky Leg BBQ on another GC (Randy’s batting average is looking 🔥), and our buddy Eddie from thepitfather on the RGC and pinching his ticket to Vegas!

We have a busy few days at home ahead and then it’s down to Rock Lane Resort and Marina for the 2nd Annual Grills Gone Wild contest. We’re in the home stretch for the season and it’s bittersweet…but we are pretty tired!
