☁️🔭 EVENT POSTPONED TO JUNE 13TH 🔭☁️

Well, it looks like the clouds have won this round.

After carefully monitoring the forecast, we've decided to postpone our Star Party with Ozark Mountain Adventure to our rain date of June 13th.

As much as we'd love to be out sharing the night sky with everyone, telescopes and thick cloud cover have a long-standing feud—and unfortunately, the clouds are undefeated. ☁️🏆

The good news is that this gives us another opportunity to gather under hopefully clearer skies in just a couple of weeks. We appreciate everyone's understanding and flexibility.

Please help us spread the word by sharing this post with anyone who was planning to attend.

We look forward to seeing everyone on June 13th for an evening of stars, planets, telescopes, and astronomy!

✨🔭 We're buzzing with excitement for tonight's celestial adventure with Ozark Mountain Adventures! 🌙⭐

We're also keeping one eye on the sky, just in case the clouds decide to crash the party. ☁️👀

We'll be watching the forecast throughout the day and will post an official update at 5:00 PM regarding tonight's event.

Will we be stargazing under the Ozark skies tonight, or will we gently scoot the magic to our rain date of June 13th? Stay tuned!

In the meantime, keep your fingers crossed for clear skies and help us send some positive observing vibes skyward. 🌌✨

📢 Check back here at 5:00 PM for the official decision.

🔭✨ FREE STAR PARTY THIS FRIDAY IN BRANSON! ✨🔭

The Springfield Astronomical Society is excited to partner with Ozark Mountain Adventure for a FREE Star Party this Friday June 5, 2026 at 8:00 PM in Branson!

Join us for an evening under the stars as we explore the night sky through telescopes and share the wonders of astronomy with visitors and locals alike. Whether you're a seasoned observer or have never looked through a telescope before, everyone is welcome!

📻 Tomorrow morning, SAS members Lane and Matt will be joining Halley from Ozark Mountain Adventures on 100.1 FM to talk about the event, astronomy, and what guests can expect during this special night under the stars.

🌧️ With the Ozarks experiencing a pretty wet spring lately, we've also included a rain date of June 13th just in case Mother Nature doesn't cooperate. We'll keep everyone updated as we get closer to the event.

Bring your curiosity, bring your family, bring a telescope if you have one, and come experience the universe with us!

🌧️❌ STAR PARTY CANCELED ❌🌧️

Unfortunately, due to inclement weather and unfavorable observing conditions, tonight's Star Party at Fellows Lake has been canceled.

While we're disappointed that the clouds aren't cooperating, the safety of our members and guests comes first, and unfortunately telescopes and thunderstorms don't mix very well! ⛈️🔭

We appreciate everyone's enthusiasm and support, and we look forward to seeing you at a future Springfield Astronomical Society event when the skies are clearer.

Keep looking up—the stars will be waiting for us! ✨🌙

Thank you for your understanding.

January 16, 2026 Outreach at McBride Elementary.

Springfield Astronomical Society participated in McBride Elementary School's annual STEAM night on January 16, 2026. We set up telescopes in the school gym and allowed students and parents to look through them, and we set up a table where we displayed slideshows of astrophotos, and some printed ones as well. We also answered student's and parent's questions as well as discussing telescopes, optics, light pollution, and other astronomy related topics.

We held the year's last of our beginning astronomy series of classes in support of the Library Telescope Program on Monday Dec. 1, 2025. The subject was Binocular Astronomy presented by Kurt Clement. It was a cold snowy evening and that probably affected attendance, but it was a great class, the attendees seemed quite interested, and asked good questions. We had a wide array of types and sizes of binoculars on display, and a couple of mounts as well.

Be sure to keep an eye out for our astronomy classes next year!
