Maryland Cricket League is a community-based organization made up of cricket enthusiasts with primary focus on providing recreational cricket facility to local cricket community; and inviting non-cricket community to learn and try out cricket as a sport
OUR MISSION:
Devote Yourself to the Community Around You & Devote Yourself to Creating Something That Gives You Purpose & Meaning. Back in 2012
, bunch of volunteers started fund-raising Charity Cricket initiative for the benefit of underprivileged children in India. We were fortunate enough not only to secure Murray Hill Middle School ground with the help of localities but also to manage to get 7 – 8 cricket teams. Later in 2012 – 13, our tireless work & pursue with Montgomery County (MD)excelled and helped us secure a cricket pitch at Spencerville Recreation Center in Silver Spring. Today, thanks to the support of the local community, we have grown into 20+ dedicated teams with around 500 – 600 active members. With the substantial backing of the County, we have grown manifolds over the years and our accessibility of “Roberto Clemente Middle School (RCMS)” and “Damascus” Grounds today aptly reflects that fact. Going forward, these new venues will be utilized by both Cricket and Soccer Ball Communities to host the games. Besides supporting underprivileged children in India, we have also introduced Youth Cricket and Math Tutoring program in the region. This initiative resulted into our own ~ “Maryland Thunder” – an U15 leather ball cricket team with 15-20 youth members. The prime objective of this program is to transition the cricket knowledge ad expertise to the 2nd generation children while also engaging non-cricket playing communities. Since 2015 season, we have been consistently getting at least 5 – 7 teams that participate in our U15 Cricket Tournaments. MATH TUTORING PROGRAM:
Over the past decade, there’s a great concern amongst local board of education that our children are struggling with Math. Being a caring community organization, this issue did concern us and made us think how can help County with Math Learning. Hence in 2017, as an addition of a new cog to the MCL dynamics, we initiated Math Tutoring program in an effort to uplift math standards Though this program is still in its infancy, we have on-average 10 kids learning Mathematics, via online video conference from the comfort of their homes.
