Some people are just part of the fabric of a gym… and Dale DeWoody is one of those people.
It’s hard to put into words how much we’re going to miss him. While we’re so excited for this new chapter for Dale and his family, we’re also feeling a little selfish because CrossFit SDG just won’t be the same without him.
If you’ve ever worked out with Dale, you know exactly what we’re talking about. He’d complain about the WOD before it started… then somehow end up crushing it anyway. He wasn’t above RX’ing the women’s weights just to get a laugh, and somehow a Coke always seemed to be part of his recovery plan. 😂
His dry one-liners could turn a miserable workout into one full of laughter, especially with the 7 a.m. crew. You never knew what was coming out of his mouth next, but it was always perfectly timed.
And then there was The Open.
While the rest of us were anxiously waiting to see what workout would be announced, Dale was busy creating his own version—complete with ridiculous movements like:
* 10 seconds of regret
* 5 bodyweight deep breaths
* 10 empty single… whatever they were
* Potty break
* 10 head twists
* 1 shoe retie
* 10 claps
Those whiteboards became almost as anticipated as the actual Open workouts, and they perfectly captured his sense of humor.
But beyond the jokes, Dale is one of the kindest, most genuine people you’ll ever meet. He showed up consistently. He worked hard. He encouraged others simply by being there. He made our community stronger, and that’s something that can’t be replaced.
Dale, thank you for every laugh, every early morning, every Open parody workout, and for being such an important part of CrossFit SDG. We’re better because you were here.
You’ll always have a home at SDG, and we’ll be cheering you on from Oklahoma.
We’ll miss you more than you know. ❤️💙
