There are some stories that remind you how powerful the word home really is.
For Ana Rose, our Aquatics Director, becoming an American citizen was more than paperwork, appointments and waiting. It was a journey filled with hope, nerves, prayer, patience — and, at times, fear.
She knew she was here legally. She knew her history was clean. But like anyone waiting on something that important, her mind still played tricks on her.
What if they find something? What if something goes wrong?
The current political climate didn’t make those thoughts any easier.
Ana loves Colombia. She loves her country, her family and her culture. But she also knew that choosing citizenship meant fully embracing the country she now calls home.
Her story includes leaving home, returning home, building a life in Shawnee, meeting her husband Brian and finding purpose in helping others — especially here at the Y.
This is Ana’s story.
A story of faith.
A story of family.
A story of courage.
A story of becoming.
