Wise Fool New Mexico Wise Fool is a beloved and award-winning non-profit organization and social circus at the center of Santa Fe’s community arts scene.

2025 UPDATE: Wise Fool has lost their long-time studio space off Siler Rd. We are currently operating as a "traveling circus" while we seek a new home by bringing our award-winning youth programs into partner organizations through local collaboration. Wise Fool is a beloved and award-winning non-profit organization at the center of Santa Fe's community arts scene. Our mission is to ignite imaginat

ion, build community, and promote social justice through performances and hands-on experiences in the arts of circus, puppetry, and theatre. We serve 2,000 youth and adults with hands-on activities and 14,000 audience members annually with high-quality experiences built upon our core values of community, arts accessibility, and social justice. Our name honors the court jester or "wise fool," who in European medieval times was able to address controversial matters to the king and those in power without fear of retribution, as wise fools would often draw upon disarming spectacle and humor to do so. Over the past two decades, Wise Fool New Mexico has been utilizing this "back door" approach to opening dialogue in otherwise touchy situations in the creation of productions about social issues such as censorship, water rights and land use, domestic violence, immigration and borders. As a pioneer in the emerging North American social circus movement and the only contemporary circus arts company in New Mexico, Wise Fool is further evolving circus as an art form by developing quality productions, professional artists, and expert teachers for circus-based arts curriculums. Encouraging audiences to jump the bounds of possibility and recognize that we are all capable of the extraordinary, we offer first-hand explorations and skill-building experiences in which participants discover and develop their own connection to the arts.

When it comes to bar apparatuses, you're in great hands with Coach Lisa. A former-student turned long-time coach and performer, she's been a staple on our staff for quite some time, and we're lucky to have her!

In addition to her Continuing Fabrics class, Lisa is teaching two bar classes this session:

🩵 Static Trapeze - Foundational 🩵
Build on your foundation of Static Trapeze! You’ll develop body awareness and strength through beginner poses, balances, and transitions around the bar and ropes. The focus is on proper technique, building endurance, and beginning to link movements together. Prerequisites include familiarity with mounting the bar, seated poses, under-the-bar movement, and supported hangs.

💜 Lyra - Foundational 💜
Expand on lyra vocabulary, basic shapes and transitions, explore movement in and around the hoop, and learn conditioning exercises to support more complex skills later on. Prerequisites include familiarity with mounting the hoop, seated poses, under-the-bar movement, and supported hangs.

Both classes are available on a weekly drop-in basis. Register today at the link in our bio!

Does this sound like a familiar scenario: You learn a new skill in class one week, but next week you feel like you're learning it for the first time all over again? Or the class has moved on before you've really gotten it down?

It happens, we've all been there. The key is to make time for practicing! That's where Open Studio comes in. Hosted by a member of our staff, Open Studios are a chance for you to work on the skills you've been building in a go-at-your-own-pace setting. Bring your notes and videos, warm yourself up, and spend some time refining those techniques. Have a question or need a spot? Just ask the host—while these are non-instructed sessions, they're there to help you feel safe and supported.

We have three Open Studio slots during our next class session:
💫 Mondays from 11-12:30 PM
💫 Tuesdays from 12-1:30 PM
💫 Fridays from 6-7:30 PM

So come join us and work on the skills you've been building! Even a little practice goes a long way. Sign up in advance at wisefoolnewmexico.org/schedule

Circus arts are a magical combination of strength and creativity, and we're pretty stoked to have classes on our schedule to help you build both in a more deliberate and playful way.

✨ Movement Play & Exploration ✨
This class is intended to let each person explore and expand how they’re body moves in relation to mood, music and story. Come get in touch with your personal creative style in a welcoming, judgement-free environment!

💪 Flight Lab - All Levels 💪
This circuit-based aerial conditioning class blends floor and on-apparatus aerial training to instill students with the strength, technique, and confidence to complete more physically demanding movement patterns in aerials and acrobatics. Students rotate through exercise stations on a variety of aerial apparatuses emphasizing core stabilization, upper body strength, and back-body engagement. These exercises are meant to foster a sustainable aerial practice, guard against injury, and help to access more demanding aerial skills. Open to all levels, as long as you’ve taken at least one aerial class, with options to challenge each participant at their own pace.

Do you know about our monthly membership and class pack options? They're a great way to make learning circus a little more affordable.

Monthly memberships offer the biggest savings to regular students. These grant you access to regular training, and can be used for Drop-In classes. Unlimited Memberships can be used towards Series, too! Most memberships required a 3 month minimum commitment.

Class packs also help with cost savings for those who can't commit on a monthly basis. These reduce the per-class cost of our drop-in classes. For example, with our 8 Class Pack, you save $16 on Aerial classes, $8 on Ground classes, or $24 on Open Studio visits!

We're excited to offer these options to our community, making circus more accessible to you while providing sustainability to us—it’s a win-win!

Wondering which fabrics class is right for you? With Intro, Foundational, and Continuing options, there's a class to meet a wide range of skill levels.

🌈 Intro 🌈
This 8-week series class is designed for those who are new or nearly new to fabrics. Learn the basics of climbing, footlocks, and hipkeys while exploring beginner-level sequencing and starting to develop your creative voice. As a series class, the material builds on itself each week to really focus on the development of these core skills.

🌈 Foundational 🌈
A drop-in class for those with a little more experience under their belt. Build on your knowledge by exploring wraps and more intricate skills while strengthening foundational skills like hipkeys and inversions. Familiarity with Introductory skills, including footlocks, standard climb, Angel Down, and Elsie Cross, is required for this class.

🌈 Continuing 🌈
With a solid base established, dive deeper into climbing, wraps, and drops. You’ll learn longer sequences, build transitions, and begin to explore dynamic movement. Prerequisites include 5 second Egg hold, inversion in the air, and hipkey in the air.
