PERFORMANCE HAIR:
Proper hair is part of ballet etiquette and dress code for Ms. Jordan’s Dance Studio and the Performing Arts. Ladies wear a traditional ballet bun. Gentleman secure hair with gel or place in a low ponytail if applicable. Ballet buns are to be worn by all dancers and secured with gel or hairspray, unless otherwise noted. Helpful suggestions from our staff members will be made during dress rehearsal if needed. Please make sure hair is done before your child arrives at the auditorium on the days of dress rehearsal and performance.

Proper Ballet Bun Instructions:
1. Wet hair and comb in a generous amount of gel. Brush hair smooth and free of tangles.
2. Pull hair back neatly into a ponytail, at the BASE of the head and secure with hair elastic. Older dancers are to neatly part hair on one side before using hair elastic. Classic ballet buns are not high on the top part of the head. As a studio, we prefer a lower bun.
3. Use hairspray to eliminate any fly-aways around the head as they are visible in stage lighting. Smooth any remaining bumps.
4. Twist the ponytail as you gradually wrap it around the hair elastic, creating a tightly coiled circle, inserting bobby pins as you go. Be sure your bobby pin contains hair from the head and the ponytail. Use plenty of pins. Usually 12-16 on average or more depending on hair thickness.
5. Once you have your bun tightly coiled around your elastic and secured, wrap a hair net, matching your hair color, around the bun as many times as necessary for a snug fit and pin into place. Add a few extra pins to ensure the hairnet is secure. Use hair spray or gel to flatten any “wisps” that remain.
Short hair (ear length), including bangs, that is absolutely impossible to fabricate into a bun, with all indicated products, should be pulled back as much as possible with bobby pins, gel and hairspray to prevent distracting strands of hair. NO hair should be hanging in the face.

STAGE MAKEUP
Stage makeup is essential for all dancers. Stage lighting can wash out facial features. A heavier version of everyday wear is necessary. Our youngest dancers are not required to apply such a heavy amount. We understand the difficulties of make-up applications on little ones and only request that you do your best without added stress.
1. Use an appropriate color of foundation and/or powder.
2. Apply brown eyeshadow to the eyelid. Shadow should be darker in the crease. Apply a lighter neutral shade to the brow bone below the eyebrow.
3. Thickly line above the eye with black eyeliner, line below with brown eyeliner. Extend both lines slightly out just past the eye, leaving a small space in between for a line of white eyeliner. This makes the eye appear more open. Apply layers of mascara. Use mascara to adhere fake eyelashes to real lashes. Fake eyelashes may be worn by any age child but should be worn if over 10.
4. If necessary, darken the eyebrow with the appropriate shade of eyebrow pencil.
5. Apply a circle of pink blush on the apples of the cheeks.
6. Red lipstick should be worn by all performers.

DRESS REHEARSAL
Dress rehearsal will be Friday, June 13th. Please arrive at Skokos Performing Arts Center in Alma at 5:30PM with you hair and make-up done, ready to receive your costumes and take the stage! Dress rehearsals are closed to the public.

Friday, June 13th:
Dress rehearsals begin! We kindly ask for your patience as we will be running the show in its entirety for the first time. Dress rehearsal will run as fast as possible, but stops will be necessary as we work out any complications. We will be entering and exiting via the dressing rooms. We will do our best to run in order of the official recital lineup. Please keep in mind, in order to work on staging issues that affect the show, our dancers and storyline, we may get slightly out of sequence. Dress Rehearsal is ONLY a Rehearsal and NOT a Performance. For dances that appear in both shows, only the first 30 seconds of the dance will be run at dress rehearsal.

DRESS REHEARSAL IS CLOSED TO THE PUBLIC! NO EXCEPTIONS!
We would be unable to showcase the magnificent talents of your amazing children without the endless support and energy you have provided this past year(s). It is a collaboration of all of us to make this an event they will cherish. We kindly ask for your continuation in these efforts to help us provide a safe comfortable environment for our wonderful students by keeping outside observers from entering our private technical rehearsals, dress rehearsals, and backstage dressing areas. We do not wish to place our security personnel in the awkward situation of asking anyone to leave the area/premises, which will be strictly enforced. Our dance students are our number one priority! Your dancer has dedicated many hours in perfecting their routines
in hopes of entertaining family and friends, therefore we would like to keep all costumes, concepts, and choreography a surprise to our valued ticket holders.

RECITAL DAY!!!!!
Please arrive hair and makeup ready no later than one hour prior to showtime. For the 2:00 show, dancers arrive at 1:00 and for the 7:00 show, dancers arrive at 6:00 on performance day.

One parent/guardian per child allowed in the dressing areas. Dancers may greet additional family and friends after the show in the lobby.

Congratulations to our talented dancers for a fantastic year! We are proud of your achievements and excited for more dance moments ahead. We support you and cheer you on as you take the stage to shine and sparkle. Love and Hugs from Ms. Jordan’s Dance Studio team.
