Well, I think I've kept it secret long enough. Time to share with you all exactly what I've been working on. I wrote a Christmas song in December 2024 as a silly challenge to myself. I wasn't expecting to hear a country song in my head once I wrote it but I did. I received good feedback on it. I just couldn't do anything with it myself. I'm a writer, not a singer. I shopped it around for awhile but didn't find anyone who had the time to take it as their own and do something with it.
The main line of the chorus is “Gifts and singin’ don't mean nothing… if you ain't here with me.” The meaning behind it is this… if you're going to celebrate Christmas, don't forget to invite Jesus.
A few months ago, God dropped a thought in my lap. He does that sometimes. The song was more than just a song. God made me a storyteller… and there's a story here. At least a novel, if not a movie, too. One thing at a time, though.
Allow me to introduce… Brock Haggerty. He's a Navy veteran who is now a country music singer who seems to be on the downhill side of his career. He's forced to fight for what he believes in and it becomes a crossroads he wasn't expecting. He rediscovers what he's made of and all the people in his life who have by his side.
Another Christmas Song is the name of the book as well as the song. The story is one of faith, grief, family and forgiveness.
I wasn't expecting it to be, but this book is also my life. Not literally. It's not a memoir or an autobiography but more like a mirror into memory. Some elements are pretty close to my life. Others are exactly my life. Still others are closer to what my life could look like if things had happened differently.
