Mountain Ju**ies 18th Roanoke Non Ultra Trail Series (RNUTS) has concluded and it’s been a great season. Thank you to everyone who helped and participated.
The last week has been one of those weeks that perfectly captures what our trail community is all about.
We've spent the last week wearing a lot of hats—not just race directors, but trail runners, trail maintainers, timers, and adventurers.
🏃 Friday 5/29, Gina and Josh marked the Conquer the Cove course, while Ron & Cathy Butler cleared a downed tree on Chestnut Ridge after a report was forwarded to us by the National Park Service volunteer coordinator.
🪓 Saturday, Ron and Josh finished setting up the course for race day.
🏃♂️ Sunday was the 16th running of Conquer the Cove 25K & Marathon, and we couldn't have asked for a better day on the trails.
🌲 Monday was set aside as a post-race recovery and cleanup day, Josh headed back out to Chestnut Ridge to assess trail conditions and remove two more downed trees from the loop.
⏱️ Wednesday, we celebrated Global Running Day by timing Fleet Feet Roanoke’s The Big Run 5k
🏃♂️🏔️ Amongst all of that, we still managed to fit in a long training run, with friends, over The Priest and Three Ridges as we continue preparing for some upcoming trail adventures.
🥇🥈🥉 Saturday, we celebrated the end of the RNUTS with our post series social and awards ceremony and at the same time 🪓 Ron & Cathy Butler knocked out the final remaining downed tree on the Chestnut Ridge Trail.
When people see a race, they often see just a few hours on race day. What they don't see are the countless hours spent maintaining trails, marking courses, clearing trees, coordinating volunteers, timing events, and squeezing in our own training along the way.
It's been a busy RNUTS season, but we're grateful to be part of a community that loves these trails as much as we do. Thank you to everyone who volunteers, races, runs, and helps keep our local trail scene thriving.
