This weekend didn’t go exactly how I hoped—but it may have been exactly what I needed.
After a frustrating short track race on Friday, I spent a lot of time questioning myself. Then Saturday’s XCO reminded me why I love this sport.
The course turned into an absolute mud fest. Everyone was crashing, conditions changed every lap, and every corner felt like a new adventure. I crashed, people in front of me crashed, got back up, crashed again, passed riders, got passed back, and just kept focusing on staying smooth and present. (And somehow got stung by a bee on one lap… 😂😬 however, that was the least of my worries lol)
I moved from 10th to 6th throughout the race and finished with my best Pro Cup result so far. More importantly, I learned a lot. &&& my legs started to finally feel pretty good as the race progressed. We don’t get many opportunities to race or let alone ride in conditions like that, and I surprised myself with both my speed and my ability to stay on the bike when things got really gnarly.
Of course, the competitor in me wanted more. I would have loved to be on the podium, and honestly, I expected to be closer to it. But this weekend taught me something bigger than results.
Ben and I spent the week learning about pacing—not just on the bike, but in life. Building a van, traveling, racing, working, chasing big goals, and trying to create a life that feels aligned with who we want to be. It’s not always easy, but I truly feel like we’re building something special.
The results I want will come. For now, I’m proud of the lessons learned, the experience gained, and the reminder that progress isn’t always measured by a podium.
On to the next one. 🤘🏼 do enjoy my spa day mud bath pics 🐷
