A good day at the office!

DRF Isabela and I headed up to the lovely Vienna Farm in Gorham, Maine, where they were hosting their final schooling show of the season.

Izzy had a great outing, despite bringing a little cold weather spice to her work, and gained some confidence in mileage as we returned to Second level. We also learned once we got home that we earned the day’s high score for the open division training level or above!

Thank you to the entire team at Vienna, who puts these shows on and lets us take over their beautiful facility for the day, I love the volunteers who get things done, and judge Jane Tremlett for her thoughtful comments.

We are in the horse business, not the compost business, but when our horses do their business…it makes Poo For You!

Please consider using CMF's Poo For You Aged Compost for your fertilizing needs. This isn't just raw manure! Our aged compost is made primarily from horse manure and hay, with a little bit of household produce mixed in. We rotate it through our 3 bay compost bin and then let it “cook” a bit longer in long rows. The entire process takes about five to eight months, and the result is a rich, earthy compost perfect for gardens, beds and other similar uses.

Self-serve bags are available "grab and go" style roadside ($5 each, ~30 pounds) or 1/2 yard tractor bucket scoops available by appointment (after 5 PM M-F, weekends).

Cold Moon Farm is the permanent home for four senior/sanctuary horses; these are animals whose active riding or competition careers are over, and who often require extra care. ALL MONIES FROM SALES go into our Sanctuary Care Fund. This Fund is used to help to ensure these animals receive the highest standards of veterinary, farrier, and adjunctive support in their senior years.

Anna doesn't always like to pose completely still, but I like to think she is also appreciating the rich diversity of the forb species growing on this shrubland habitat.

Shrubland is a transitional habitat type which provides important cover, nesting sites, and food for countless songbird species and pollinators, as well as an array of other important native species. To maintain shrubland, managers must periodically crop all of its vegetation to the ground and allow it to grow back--otherwise, it will transition into first-degree woodland habitat, and new species of plants and animal will take over.

🐎 Meet Your Yoga Instructor — Christina Keim

Christina Keim is Cold Moon Farm’s Principal Horseman and a certified yoga instructor. A lifelong equestrian, she has trained and competed across multiple disciplines, including eventing, jumpers, hunters, hunt seat equitation, dressage, and competitive distance riding — giving her a well-rounded, thoughtful approach to developing both horse and rider.

For nearly twenty years, Christina served as an educator and academic advisor at a top New England university, mentoring undergraduate students and coaching the hunt seat equestrian team. Through this experience, she discovered that the most meaningful lessons horses teach us aren’t about ribbons or results — they’re about awareness, resilience, communication, and self-understanding.

Today, Christina brings that philosophy directly to your barn through Equestrian Yoga & Mounted Mindfulness clinics. Each clinic is designed to meet riders exactly where they are, blending yoga philosophy, breathwork, movement, and mounted application to build strength, balance, focus, and partnership.

Congratulations to our own Spring Hollow Marquesa and Jessica Joyce, who scored a 67.76% at Training Level Test 2 in the Dressage Show Online Classic Dressage Schooling Show. This test was filmed just days after Q's 30th birthday, and their ride not only won the Open High Point Award for the show, it qualified them for the 2026 North America Online Championships!

I had a wonderful time in the Greater San Francisco area last week--

First, a USPC H-B prep clinic at Nathalie Guion's fabulous Sonoma Coastal EquesTraining Center in Petaluma, followed by an Equestrian Yoga and Mounted Mindfulness clinic the next day. Thanks so much to all of the participants, to Nathalie for the invitation, and to my hostess Susan who took care of me and showed me the sites!

Then it was off to the stunning Woodside Equestrian Park outside of Palo Alto, home to the Woodside Show Series and this year's West Coast Connemara Show! I had a wonderful time meeting new friends, appreciating lovely ponies, and even eavesdropped on a Sabine Schut-Kery clinic going on at the same venue. Thanks to Lee for the invitation, and for the hospitality of her mother Joanie who, at 87, is an inspiration to us all!
