An amazing youth weekend once again. I always love to bring the kids out and teach them what I know and how to respect everything in the process. Top of the list the beautiful game we are after, of mother nature and respect for the owners of the land we hunt on. I was impressed with these two young lady's. They showed great heart, determination and respect as well as safety and comradery. I learned a lot myself this weekend. It's so much more then teaching a skill and respecting the animals. To say the least I'm extremely proud of them. On Sunday Audreys hunt didn't go exactly as you would hope. To watch Annalise and Audrey work together for the sake of not leaving a wounded bird in the woods and complete what needed to be done gave me so much happiness to know hunting isn't just a kill its life skills in so many other ways. This old bird was tough as nails and gave us the slip few times. The girls didn't give up in the hour and a half of cat and mouse. The two of them in the scramble of setting up to make multiple shots had the safety on before I could ask, checking distance on housing on Google and direction of shot. I truly believe the world would be a better place if everyone understood what it takes and means to harvest your own food from the wild. There were tears of respect and joy of accomplishment. Its not the thrill of the kill like people would like to believe. Those people have never experienced it and do not know what they speak of. Audrey got her first deer with us last year and this was her first turkey. I recently was bashed for killing all the animals in the woods. I haven't personally shot a turkey in two years. I feel bad for this person for they don't understand how ignorant their words are. I wouldn't trade this experience of Sundays hunt for all the money in the world. I will always enjoy helping others to experience and appreciate this wonderful sport, time honored tradition and God given right. I feel sorry for those who don't understand and put it down for we hunters do not bash and attack them for their choice not to!
