An amazing youth weekend once again. I always love to bring the kids out and teach them what I know and how to respect everything in the process. Top of the list the beautiful game we are after, of mother nature and respect for the owners of the land we hunt on. I was impressed with these two young lady's. They showed great heart, determination and respect as well as safety and comradery. I learned a lot myself this weekend. It's so much more then teaching a skill and respecting the animals. To say the least I'm extremely proud of them. On Sunday Audreys hunt didn't go exactly as you would hope. To watch Annalise and Audrey work together for the sake of not leaving a wounded bird in the woods and complete what needed to be done gave me so much happiness to know hunting isn't just a kill its life skills in so many other ways. This old bird was tough as nails and gave us the slip few times. The girls didn't give up in the hour and a half of cat and mouse. The two of them in the scramble of setting up to make multiple shots had the safety on before I could ask, checking distance on housing on Google and direction of shot. I truly believe the world would be a better place if everyone understood what it takes and means to harvest your own food from the wild. There were tears of respect and joy of accomplishment. Its not the thrill of the kill like people would like to believe. Those people have never experienced it and do not know what they speak of. Audrey got her first deer with us last year and this was her first turkey. I recently was bashed for killing all the animals in the woods. I haven't personally shot a turkey in two years. I feel bad for this person for they don't understand how ignorant their words are. I wouldn't trade this experience of Sundays hunt for all the money in the world. I will always enjoy helping others to experience and appreciate this wonderful sport, time honored tradition and God given right. I feel sorry for those who don't understand and put it down for we hunters do not bash and attack them for their choice not to!

This year was different for sure. Didn't have a ton of time due to work. No time for the plots and very minimal time to hunt. Didn't run the numerous cameras like usual, just two. Didn't do any all day sits or consecutive days in the woods. I think in total I was out maybe 15 times and thats probably exaggerated. Sometimes less is more. I managed to get two beautiful bucks and hunt with one of my hunting mentors daughter. We walked by all his old stands and visited spots I hadn't been to in years. The memories were as fresh as yesterday. We saw a few deer walked out empty handed but with a full heart. Definitely my best day in the woods this year and looking forward to doing it again next year after a little more preparation to get her in some of her dad's stands.
Filled both of my archery tags and better yet introduced my daughter's friend to hunting. They both harvested does 15 min apart. To see the excitement in a new hunter being successful and appreciating the sport was better then harvesting any giant trophy. Pretty sure she will be out there enjoying the woods for years to come. I have come to to realize I get more enjoyment and happiness from helping and teaching others then being successful myself. The memories made this year will not be soon forgotten!

We didn't hear one single gobble. They came down off the roost late and we got covered in jakes. After they left a couple of Tom's came through and Annalise hammered a nice 21 pound 1 inch spurs tom. An hour later some jakes came back though and Vinny made a 45 yard shot on a double beard Jake. Great job getting it done by both kids!! And took the hungry kids to breakfast after to celebrate. Big thanks to Berry's bait for keeping up the tradition of check stations and being so awesome with the kids!

I just realized I never posted my daughter's first buck. Well she was one happy kiddo to say the least. The very next day my buddies son tagged a big doe out of the same stand! This is my first year since I started hunting that I didn't harvest a deer. But the smile on the kids faces make me forget about my tag soup!!

Well it's that time of year! I'll have the roidz out till late February then clean up what's left around April 15th.
