Elite sprinters' lower limbs are very stiff when they contact the ground. It helps them produce very high peak forces, and the main thing is it helps them come off the ground really quickly. You don't want a bunch of slack in the ankle complex where your heel is just mushing down into the ground, because it's like bouncing a deflated basketball it's gonna come off the ground with less velocity and stay on the ground too long, which is what we do not want during sprinting.
We have a multitude of exercises that enhance ankle stiffness, but what we've come to find out is that heavy resistance sprints are the most optimal exercise for enhancing ankle stiffness during the sprint. If you're interested in our speed program, message us.
