I try to stay positive about the future of in California. But man the state makes it hard to have any faith in the future at all. This may be one of DWR and CDFW’s stupidest ideas yet! So now some mental midget came up with a “reintroduction feasibility study” for Spring Run Chinook Salmon on the Feather River. Someone thought trucking fertilized eggs up river past Oroville dam, 6 additional hydroelectric dams, and into the mountain headwaters of the feather river was a good idea. I ask, “good idea for what”? Just to see if it can be done. After these eggs hatch the juveniles have to be trapped before entering Lake Almanor. Then back in the truck down river past all the dams. Just to be released into a striped bass feeding frenzy. Even if it happened to be a little successful. Then what? Truck a handful of salmon eggs every year to maintain a run that will never grow, can never be self sustaining, and can’t exist without vehicle transportation. Again, for what? Here’s an idea for DWR and CDFW….Why do you use the mitigation money for what it is intended for. PUT MORE SALMON INTO THE FEATHER RIVER FOR THE PUBLIC TO BENEFIT FROM! What’s wrong with that idea. As it is right now these departments have thousands of spring run chinook salmon stuck below the hatchery for 10 miles. Rotting from a hatchery disease that is caused by over crowding of salmon living in close proximity to each other. These salmon will literally rot alive then die before they ever get a chance to reproduce. Instead of letting the public fish for the excess spring run salmon, they let them rot and die. Then they start a “ feasibility study” a hundred miles away that wi literally never benefit a human or the wildlife! To make matters worse this specific run of king salmon is a “hatchery produced run” meaning these fish belong to the public as a matter of public trust. Yet the public has to stand by and watch these state departments play science experiment with our money and our salmon. It’s about time we fishermen and hunters take some power back. Stop the WAIST, FRAUD, and ABUSE….
