Took my notes at in New York City last month.

There’s a version of “certified” that means you passed a test. And there’s a version that means you never stopped learning.

After 30 years in this work — and helping write the NCPT exam — I can tell you the teachers who keep me inspired are the ones still asking questions. The ones who worry me are the ones who stopped.

Not every prop is there to increase intensity. Some of them unlock the work.

By elevating the torso off the ground, the BOSU creates space for the upper and lower body to move freely, allowing you to access the full Swan Dive in a way the mat alone can’t always deliver.

This is what purposeful prop use looks like. Every choice in a Pilates session should have a reason. This one does.

The reformer barely scratches the surface of what Pilates actually is.

It’s easy to create new exercises on a reformer and call it Pilates. It’s harder to teach the system as it was designed.

I’ve spent 30 years in this system. I actually helped write the exam that certifies teachers. The shortcut everyone is looking for doesn’t exist, but the system does.

Joe LOVED props and we do, too! But….

Props are pointless if you’re not working in the system. The system is deep and wide. It takes time and effort to learn it, a long term commitment to know it, and curiosity to adapt it.

That’s what we do here at Mind 2 Body Fitness. We invest in the system so we can adapt and evolve it. That’s where the work is.

We truly love that people are moving more and that Pilates has gained so much visibility, but adding props to random movements just isn’t Pilates.
