Meet Max!
1. Give me a background on yourself
My name is Max Bell. I’m 17 years old (soon to be 18), and I’m currently a senior at Portsmouth West. I work part-time at Weaver’s on the West Side and am saving money to go to college in the fall. I’m planning on majoring in mechanical engineering at Ohio University in Athens.
2. What got you started in CrossFit Alpha Pack?
I got started at CrossFit back in 2018 when my mom (Jackie Bell) started bringing me to the family night classes, but I didn’t really start taking it seriously until my dad (Eric Bell) got me to come back to it in eighth grade to try to help with basketball. If it weren’t for them, I probably would never have had the confidence to even try CrossFit.
3. How has CrossFit impacted your life?
CrossFit has a really good community surrounding it. Any competition that I’ve been to has always had people who will help you even if you’ve never met them before. Being around those kinds of people growing up has been a really nice experience, and not only that, but it’s something that I enjoy that I can do for the rest of my life.
4. Tell me your favorite thing about CrossFit Alpha Pack.
My favorite thing about CrossFit Alpha Pack is the way that anytime that I miss class for an entire week, I never hear the end of it ;) The coaches and other Crossfitters hold me accountable for not showing up, and it's as good a reason as any to show up consistently. That is, I still don’t show up consistently, so 🤷. There are also a lot of fun events that we do as a community outside of CrossFit, and those are always a lot of fun.
5. Do you have any tips for new members or those looking to start?
My advice to anyone who has just started CrossFit is to find someone to talk with while you’re there. This person will probably then also make you want to go more often and hold you accountable when you don’t show up. Also, it's okay to ignore your father when he is telling you that you aren’t lifting heavy enough, because you can’t work out at all if you hurt yourself.
