Meet Max!
1. Give me a background on yourself
My name is Max Bell. I’m 17 years old (soon to be 18), and I’m currently a senior at Portsmouth West. I work part-time at Weaver’s on the West Side and am saving money to go to college in the fall. I’m planning on majoring in mechanical engineering at Ohio University in Athens.

2. What got you started in CrossFit Alpha Pack?
I got started at CrossFit back in 2018 when my mom (Jackie Bell) started bringing me to the family night classes, but I didn’t really start taking it seriously until my dad (Eric Bell) got me to come back to it in eighth grade to try to help with basketball. If it weren’t for them, I probably would never have had the confidence to even try CrossFit.

3. How has CrossFit impacted your life?
CrossFit has a really good community surrounding it. Any competition that I’ve been to has always had people who will help you even if you’ve never met them before. Being around those kinds of people growing up has been a really nice experience, and not only that, but it’s something that I enjoy that I can do for the rest of my life.

4. Tell me your favorite thing about CrossFit Alpha Pack.
My favorite thing about CrossFit Alpha Pack is the way that anytime that I miss class for an entire week, I never hear the end of it ;) The coaches and other Crossfitters hold me accountable for not showing up, and it's as good a reason as any to show up consistently. That is, I still don’t show up consistently, so 🤷. There are also a lot of fun events that we do as a community outside of CrossFit, and those are always a lot of fun.

5. Do you have any tips for new members or those looking to start?
My advice to anyone who has just started CrossFit is to find someone to talk with while you’re there. This person will probably then also make you want to go more often and hold you accountable when you don’t show up. Also, it's okay to ignore your father when he is telling you that you aren’t lifting heavy enough, because you can’t work out at all if you hurt yourself.

Let us introduce you to Jo!
1. Give me a background on yourself
I am 18 years old and I am currently a senior in high school at Wheelersburg! I work at the Life Center at the front desk as a service representative.
2. What got you started with CrossFit Alpha Pack?
I have been around Alpha Pack my whole life even before I was allowed to Crossfit. I basically grew up in the gym, sleeping on benches, sleeping on sandbags. I came to class with my parents every day and sat there until they were done. My parents got me into Crossfit when I was around 7th and 8th grade and I’ve done it off and on since then.
3. How has CrossFit impacted your life?
Crossfit has impacted me because it has shown me how beneficial and meaningful something can be. It has helped me see how important exercise is for my mental and my physical health. Going and doing a Crossfit workout helps me to clear my head and feel 100x better about myself. Crossfit has shown me how to become more confident in myself and also created a super competitive spirit that trickles into other aspects of my life which may not be the best thing! Overall Crossfit has changed me into someone who is more confident and it’s help me find a love for exercise.
4. Tell me your favorite thing about CrossFit Alpha Pack.
My favorite thing about Crossfit Alpha Pack is that the environment is something like a family and I personally would say that all the people at Alpha Pack are a part of my family in some way shape or form. Everyone is there to help you when you need help in the workout or even in your personal life. The people within Alpha Pack want to see you succeed and want to help you succeed. So the moments where someone gets a big lift or gets a new skill we all cheer and make them feel important, because it is important to make others feel valued. Even though Crossfit can be a daunting and intimidating thing the people at Alpha Pack make it feel like a rewarding experience!
5. Do you have any tips for new members or those looking to start?
Any tips that I would give is to always try new skills and add more weight to the bar because YOLO!

This week you will get to know our seniors.
Meet Jacie and Jalyn

1. Give me a background on yourself
Our names are Jacie and Jalyn Shaw. We are 18 years old and seniors at Wheelersburg High School.
2. What got you started in CrossFit Alpha Pack?
Our mom and aunt have gone to the gym for as long as we can remember, so we’ve grown up around that environment. We got started by joining a teen CrossFit class and have been attending classes ever since.
3. How has CrossFit impacted your life?
CrossFit has made us not only physically stronger, but mentally tougher as well. It’s helped us realize that we can do hard things. We ran cross country in high school, which also required a lot of mental toughness, and CrossFit complemented that. The gym has also become a place where we can clear our heads and walk away feeling better with a good arm pump.
4. Tell me your favorite thing about CrossFit Alpha Pack
For us, it’s the people. Being some of the youngest members, we’ve gained a lot of “big brothers and sisters” who are always looking out for us and encouraging us to do our best.
5. Do you have any tips for new members or those looking to start?
Don’t be afraid to try new things. When we started, the coaches modified movements for us until we were able to do them. Everyone starts somewhere, and the support is there to help you grow.
