The purpose of yoga is to prepare the body so it can sit comfortably in mediation. Meditation is not about stopping thoughts. Our brains are wired to keep us alive, so the thoughts will keep coming. The purpose of meditation is to notice the thought, acknowledge it, and let it go. It is to notice the thought, to be aware of it, but not engage with it. When we do engage with it, it takes us on a little journey and our mind wanders for a while. But then there’s a moment when we realize our mind started to wander. When this moment happens, celebrate! Don’t get frustrated. The moment you notice your mind was wandering, you are aware and present enough no longer be engaged with the thought. The more you notice and bring your mind back to stillness, the stronger this connection becomes and the more often it happens. Learning to control and rewire your mind. There are many different ways to meditate. Honor your unique practice, whatever it looks like.
