Normally his brother, 2028 Brenner Coombs (Central Valley HS), is with him and leading the workout🏀

But this week, Total trainee 2031 Neason Coombs was on his own. And the 8th grader beat Star Drill with a 1:56 time💥

Not sure Brenner will be welcomed back after this😂

In Sunday Group Trainings, this is how we worked on “Jab” (1 foot finish) and “stride stop Rondo” (Playing off of 2)🏀

1. Jab: Start with any of the 3 jabs (foot, ball, cross), defender chases to get a game speed layup

2. Rondo: Defense now beats us to the spot, so we have to play off 2. Footwork is what we were looking for here as defender is told to go for the fake.

Overall, the things they worked on in those Jab/Rondo sessions were: Attacking 1 v 1 and a read of help defender 2 v 2 out of our “Touch the Cone” Drill. Dribbling on the fast break we worked on Hesi for change of speed, and Tween and Tim Hardaway’s for change of direction. Footwork was the Jab and stride stop to Rondo. And of course we did shooting and gameplay🏀

Session 2 starts September 13th. Come get in the gym with us!!

🚨AAU Information for Spring 2027 Rosters🚨

🏀11th Grade Girls are full, but all other grades for Boys and Girls from 5th-12th are open🏀

Just had a conversation with a parent the other day. I said I wish parents could do what I do and sit with college coaches and talk to them during the big recruiting events. Since I coached college, I have a lot of friends that I sit and discuss things with as they are recruiting players.

And what I told this parent was, the stuff parents think are important in AAU, versus what college coaches think, is completely night and day.

Just know that from the youngest grades to the oldest grades, we run our program exactly like college coaches would want💯 Developing players to their fullest potential, while also learning how to be great teammates and playing with the utmost respect for the game and your opponent🫡

Notice I said nothing about winning at younger levels, or the amount of points a player scores, or who starts and how many minutes they get🤔

If you’re looking for a basketball program that “gets it” and can help your player get to where they want to go, then get your player in the gym to check us out!

We do not do tryouts in our program. Instead I personally do player evaluations at our Sunday training sessions. If you are interested in being part of our Strick Hoops Family, contact us to get in for a FREE evaluation to see if there’s a mutual fit🎯

We are coming off one of the most enjoyable years I’ve had in 30 years of coaching, and I’m looking forward to building on that with the returning players that are “All In”, and the newcomers that will join our Strick Hoops Fam🖤💛

Total trainee 2028 Brooke Certo (Lincoln Park HS) does a lot of things well, with catch and shoot 3s being one of those things😎

At her training this week she beat 365 Shooting with a 7:12 time💥

Already has offers and her 🔥 shooting will attract more💯

08/29/2026

Total trainee and All-Region PG 2028 Evalyn Furey (Commodore Perry HS) was in this week for a 200 make workout to check her summer training progress🏀

Already has college interest, and as she continues to shoot 🔥 like this, there will be more to come💯

08/28/2026

Total trainee 2028 Andrew Harry (Slippery Rock HS) is ready for a breakout season💥

At each quarter point of their training year, I try to do a 200 make workout to check their progress🏀

He shot a 🔥 67% eFG and is only going to keep getting better📈 Keep an eye on him 👀

🚨AAU Information for Spring 2027 Rosters🚨

For student-athletes, I am a pro-transfer person. I truly believe if a kid needs/wants to go elsewhere, they should be able to so without losing eligibility. I can’t imagine taking away a year of a sport from a kid😔

But also know that as a coach who built college and high school programs on loyalty and commitment, and still do that in AAU, I could never survive in today’s college basketball world. Hell, after putting in so much time, effort, care and commitment into them, I struggle whenever a player leaves our AAU program😩

So I couldn’t imagine dealing with that same stuff at a level where wins and losses matter to job security🙂‍↔️

With that said, if you’re looking to go “All In” with an AAU program that is BIG on loyalty and commitment, rather than hype, then get your player in the gym to check us out!

🏀Open to boys and girls players in grades 5th through 12th🏀

Program note: While I’ll continue to coach ALL our teams in practice, with the majority of my coaching experience in College and HS being on the boys side, I will now be the Head Coach of our boys teams. Coach Marisa, who has done a great job helping us build the level of success we’ve had on the girls side over the last decade, will continue to be the head coach of most of our girls teams🔥

We are coming off one of the most enjoyable years I’ve had in 30 years of coaching, and I’m looking forward to building on that with the returning players that are “All In”, and the newcomers that will join our Strick Hoops Fam🖤💛

As we wrapped up our Summer College Workouts this week, I told them every college player I’ve ever coached…the more I saw them in offseason, the better their upcoming year was, and vice versa🏀

Example I shared was a player shot a team best 40% (60% efg) from 3 as a freshman. Never saw them again. They shot 23% from behind the arc the rest of their career🤷🏼‍♂️

I understand better marketing attracts players to other places. But I’ll always be a numbers coach to take the emotion (marketing hype) out of things. If the data shows something is working, I wouldn’t change it🎯

As I always say, make sure wherever you train that you’re getting results. Busy work, doesn’t mean quality work💯

🚨AAU Information for Spring 2027 Rosters🚨

Whether I agree with it or not, AAU tryout season is upon us...yes, for the 2027 year next spring! I know it’s 8 months before the actual season, but this is the nature of the beast nowadays😱

We do not do tryouts in our program. Instead we do player evaluations at our Sunday training sessions. If you are interested in being part of our Strick Hoops Family, contact us to get in for an evaluation to see if there’s a mutual fit!

I won't know exactly how rosters/teams will shape up. But with 50 players already committed, I do expect us to be in the same range of the last couple of years, with 10-12 teams.

As of now, no grade is completely full, so we are open to boys and girls players in all grades from 6th through 12th.

The resume is in the pic. If you want that high level of experience coaching your child, plus coaches who truly care about your child, then contact us to set up an evaluation💯

Explained a situation to our assistant executive director (Coach Marisa) about a family I’ve done so much for, but didn’t return the loyalty. It shocked her😳 She actually thought I wasn’t serious because she couldn’t believe that family could do that to me. I said, “that’s my world and why I appreciate you SO much”.

Loyalty is hard to find nowadays in the coaching world. Families want coaches to be transformational, even when so many themselves are transactional🤷🏼‍♂️

So as we start preparing our AAU rosters for next spring, I just wanted to take the time to say that I TRULY appreciate all the families, past and present, who return the loyalty that we show to their children and family. “1-2-3 All In, 4-5-6 Family”, is more than just a saying to us🖤💛

There’s a lot of “false prophets” out there that do a great job of preaching a path of gold. Unfortunately, by the time families realize what they were sold wasn’t the truth, it’s too late to turn around😔

So for the past and present families that have dealt with us as truthfully and honestly as we have with them, I want to let you know how much you are TRULY appreciated🙏 You are a rare find in today’s world and I’m truly thankful for you🖤💛
