The Phoenix Bobcats Track and Field Club was started in 1981 when Erwin Jones decided to follow his passion for track and field and coaching. He is now entering his 33rd season of coaching the Bobcats to new horizons. He has sent multiple athletes to large and small schools around the country. SammyJo Evans — we’re beyond glad she’s on our team.

This is her third year with the Phoenix Bobcats, and honestly, this post is long overdue.

SammyJo has trained under jumps guru Larry Todd, and she’s brought that same elite mindset to our program.

Her vision? Build a true, dominant jumps squad. And she’s doing exactly that. What makes her impact even more powerful is that she’s not just a Bobcats coach—she works with athletes across multiple high schools and clubs, pushing each one to reach their absolute best.

Take a look at the results:

• #2 Girls Triple Jumper in the state — Jr. Avery Cowden (37+ feet)
• Three athletes ranked Top 20 in the state
• 5th grader Eli Jarbo — 30 feet
• 7th grader Griffin Jarbo — an incredible 39 feet
• Multiple Bobcat girls (not yet in high school) already jumping 29–30 feet
• Chaparral Junior — Top 20 in the state with a huge mark

• Freshman Dylan Brush — 20+ feet in the long jump

And that’s just scratching the surface.

SammyJo Evans Fun Facts: • Collegiate-level jumper with elite-level technical background
• Passionate about athlete development at every stage — youth to college
• Known for building confidence as much as performance
• One of the few coaches successfully developing BOTH long jump and triple jump athletes at scale
• Currently coaching at Mesa Community College and Park University

In just three years, she has completely elevated the Bobcats jumps program—and we’re just getting started.

You thought we only did javelin.....

Think again.
Come jump with us.
Train with one of the best.
Thank you, Sammy Jo Jumps

🔥 As the temperature rose on Saturday, so did the level of competition… and the Phoenix Bobcats rose to the occasion! 🔥

A few highlights from a great day on the track and in the field:

✨ Marvelous Maia is already being compared to “a Charli Downing in the making.” (And we all know 8th grader Charli is already a legend!) Maia delivered a huge PR in the Javelin, continuing to make her mark in the throws.

💪 Mighty Max saved the best for last—on his final throw in the AeroJavelin, he snuck into 1st place, setting both a Personal Record and a Bobcat Record! Not to mention he also took home the win in Discus.

🚀 Shoutout to Coach Chance and Coach Dona, who literally put together three relay teams at Thursday practice with the 11/12 boys. The squad of Torin, Caleb, Rennick, and E-Train (Easton Booth) stepped up and brought home 1st place!

🐾 The Bobcats LB girls also showed up strong, finishing in the Top 4 in their relay!

🏃‍♂️ Long Jumpers were hitting personal bests all day, and the High Jump crew stayed steady and consistent.

⚡ On the track, the Sprints Crew was rolling—led by Aria Coleman, who posted personal bests across the sprint events. Gavin Jackson still showing he's a force in the 13-14 Boys sprint.

🏃‍♀️ Danica continues to hold it down as the anchor of the Distance Crew. With others out for Spring Break, she fearlessly competes week after week, representing the Bobcats with heart.

🙏 Bobcat parents — thank you for your undying support of our program.

👏 Coaches — thank you for showing up prepared and having our Bobcat athletes ready to compete.

Another strong showing for the Phoenix Bobcats Track & Field Club. The work continues! 🐾🔥

She’s Baaaccck!

She just couldn’t stay away.

Please help us welcome Coach Joi Raby back to the Phoenix Bobcats Track & Field Club family!

After a short break — and a brief stint in Louisiana — Coach Raby has returned home to the Bobcats. Many of you remember her working with our Littlest Bobcats, helping lay the foundation for our youngest athletes.

She’s currently working with athletes in the East Valley, and will now be joining forces with Coach Chance to make our LB – Littlest Bobcats program even stronger.

Her two young athletes, Jaiden and EIII, are already putting in the work as they begin developing into multi-event athletes.

Welcome home, Coach Raby. The Bobcat Family is glad to have you back!

Please welcome to the Bobcat Family and coaching staff an extraordinary addition to our storied program —

Michelle Perry (Michelle Candidate)

We are beyond excited to have her join the Phoenix Bobcats, the oldest active Track & Field Club in Arizona.

Athletic Highlights:
🇺🇸 Olympian – Represented Team USA at the 2004 Summer Olympics in the heptathlon.

🥇 Two-Time World Champion – Gold Medalist in the 100m hurdles at the 2005 Helsinki World Championships and 2007 Osaka World Championships, becoming just the second woman in history to win multiple world titles in this event.

Her experience at the highest levels of international competition, combined with her passion for developing athletes, will elevate our program even further.

She will be working with Phoenix Bobcats Track and Field / Phoenix Bobcats hurdlers!!

Bobcat Family — let’s give Coach Perry a BIG welcome!

I just want you & everybody else from the Bobcats to know you all played a big part in keeping that train on the rails.
I needed every ounce of help & it’s recognized and appreciated.
