Anytime a training program turns into checking things off a laundry list, I think the program is rendered useless. Learn more in my latest Patreon article!

“I just wanna throw 90”
“How many 89’s will it take to get there?”
If that number was say 100. How many weeks/months of great nutrition, sleep and hydration wild it take? How many great reps in training will it take?

…or are you just looking for the quick fix, hit a number one time for a showcase and call it quits?

How high do you need to jump for the rep to help you jump higher in the future? How fast do you need to throw a ball to help increase speed in the future? For my money, it needs to be at or very close to your personal best.

This concept is the main reason I’ve seen programs work or fail. Kids would rather spend hundreds of dollars on shoes, gloves and a cookies & cream bat… and then say “I don’t have money for anything to measure my reps!”

This post won’t get clicks or views. It won’t sell. But it’s the truth. The goal of all training programs is to stimulate adaptations. That’s it. Program design definitely matters to help direct an athlete’s energy towards the right direction. But it’s ultimately up to the athlete and their decisions on a daily basis in order to see those adaptations occur. I’ve said it before, and I still see it every day.

“I can’t make gains no matter how hard I try!”
If your recovery is poor, and your training reps are consistently in a subpar state- you will continue to not see any gains. Kids especially need to understand this with school, Fall ball and schedule changes this time of year.

“Coach, why can’t I hit an exit velocity PR? I’ve been training hard and everything!”
A lot of times kids go to the gym with a plan and execute it. But then they go to the cages with no plan whatsoever, no warm-up or anything.

Struggling with gains? Or know someone who is? The answer might be more than the exercises, sets and reps in your program.

What state are you in when you train?
We like to make sure that every training session counts. Being in a highly ready state with your body and CNS is where it starts. It’s a great way to set yourself up to make big time gains.

The one constant I’ve noticed between the athletes who make progress and the ones who stall out is sleep. Check out the latest Patreon post to learn more!
