Oshkosh Police Department conducted a three-hour operational readiness training exercise at Oshkosh Arena, designed to prepare members of law enforcement for complex, real-world emergencies.

The scenario simulated a high-risk situation during a live event involving a politically charged comedian. In the exercise, a member of a protesting group gained access to the arena with a firearm, injured several patrons and took a hostage.

From there, highly coordinated efforts unfolded:
🚨Hostage negotiators worked to de-escalate the situation and secure the safe return of the hostage
🚨SWAT team members executed tactical operations to contain the threat
🚨Drone technology was deployed to assist with situational awareness and building security
🚨Oshkosh Fire Department personnel also assisted

The primary objectives were clear:
✅ Prevent further injuries or loss of life
✅ Safely rescue the hostage
✅ Successfully apprehend the suspect

The training was conducted in close partnership with arena staff with a successful resolution to the scenario.

With the arena's own security protocols for large-scale events related to the use of mags upon entry, clear bags, wanding and physical searches, it's unlikely a scenario would ever unfold like this, but in today's society, it's important to be prepared nonetheless.

Exercises like this are critical to ensuring first responders are fully prepared to act quickly, effectively and safely in the event of a real emergency.

Our VenuWorks of Oshkosh team thanks everyone involved in today's drill for their commitment to proactive training that ultimately strengthens our community's safety and readiness.

Yes, Oshkosh Arena can do weddings!

Just how is it possible to convert a stadium bowl into a space where guests can celebrate newlyweds and not feel they're attending a sporting event?

Take a peek at some snapshots of the setup and festivities of the arena's own Marketing and Sales Manager Maria Turner's reception with her new husband Troy this past Saturday to see the possibilities!

The arena bowl was transformed into a beachy chic look and relaxed vibe with the help of pipe-and-drape and uplighting from Lighthouse Productions, beautiful flowers from Hrnak's Flowers & Gifts (the arena's preferred florist) and a casual sheet cake and cupcake combination by Pick 'n Save Bakery.

The bride and groom built their own centerpieces, curated a mix of decorative accents, accepted the gift of a wooden trellis arch crafted by Maria's brother and appreciated the help of the arena staff in bringing the vision to life!

The arena's own in-house food-and-beverage team prepared a charcuterie spread, followed by a pizza buffet later in the night - complete with pretty presentation! They even mixed up His & Hers Signature Drinks with tropical flavors and colors to match the turquoise-teal-blue-sand palette.

With the ambiance in place, it was all entertainment and fun thereafter, thanks to the sounds of Vice Versa, featured on the arena's own stage, which was set up and coordinated by our fabulous operations team.

We've said this building is versatile since the VenuWorks of Oshkosh team took over management nearly two years ago and with each new event, we're growing in that direction!

So... if you're getting married and still searching for a venue of your own, reach out to us at [email protected] for information. Whether your guest list is 50 or 500, let's chat in hopes of helping you host a memorable evening, just as Maria and Troy did last Saturday night!
