Today is National Dog Day! 🐾

The PERFECT day to share these pictures of Violet-the QUEEN who inspired The Violet Hour Foundation 💜- with her service dog, Mando. Service dogs are constantly working to keep their people safe by being in tune with their person’s body signals.

It’s not as simple as searching “service dog” online and finding one. It takes months for a person to matched with a dog, then a few more months of the dog being trained for that person’s specific needs.

Mando spent months learning the minor changes Violet’s body makes when it is nearing dysregulation. He learned who his safe people are to help him assess a situation if he’s confused. He knows grounding strategies to support her regulation and safety.

You’ll notice Violet is NOT happy with having Mando’s picture taken. And Mando? He is confused and unsure what to do. You can see it in his eyes.

We asked Violet and her mom if we could take these pictures. The answer was yes, but you can still see that it disrupted the focus Mando had on keeping his girl safe.

We hope takeaways you’ll remember from this will be:

1. Just because someone may look like they don’t need a service dog, doesn’t mean they don’t. It means the service dog is doing their job and it’s your responsibility to let them keep working.

2. Never touch a service dog with their vest on. Looking in Mando’s direction caused confusion for him, now imagine if we had touched him. He would have been incredibly distracted, preventing him from doing his job. And that would have been entirely our fault.

On National Dog Day we want all the good dogs to get their pets and love. But we also want to make sure people are educated on service dog etiquette.

Because when we know better, we do better. 🐾

From unsure to unstoppable!

This is the magic that happens when we team up with Camp Outpost Inc. ✨

Before going on the lake, Camp Outpost invited us to try out the slack line. Arya was SO excited...until her anxiety set in. She sat down and began saying she couldn't do it.

But here's the thing. When someone comes to us with a goal, we don't give up. Arya's smile is EXACTLY why! Because we believe in these kids and know they are capable of anything when they set their minds to it. We might need a little support from an adult (or 3), but we make it happen! 💪
