If you are a member of the Hays Center in NLR we do free group lessons Mondays at 10. You have to be over 50 to be a member. The membership is only 45 dollars for the whole year.

Our last swim session begins this week. We still have a few dates left if you had plans to swim with us this summer.

I can’t believe this summer has gone by so fast. We have taught so many people, the ones we started with this year seem like they were here last summer.

If you decided to freeze your lessons they will be carried over till next year. Life happens but we always honor what you paid for.

We thank you so much for allowing us to be such an important part of your lives!

Please do not schedule extra classes for missed lessons. Missed lessons are made up at the end of the swim season. Only lessons with a 24 hour notice are made up. This has been our policy since 2007. A copy of this policy is in your confirmation email when you register. We will offer you another time for weather cancelations.

Wednesday we had 5 no shows. Then the inbox gets flooded with just in case I might show up on this day spots scheduled. That was just Wednesday. We have a list of people trying to get in soon that can’t find spots. That is not fair to them. They share the same concerns about swimming as everyone else and should have a chance to get on the schedule. If you reschedule with a 24 hour notice, we can open those times up for someone else. We have a very small window of summer sun. Please mark your calendars with the lessons you choose so we can do our job which is get you swimming.

Our office oversees the scheduling for all of our businesses. I’ve asked them not to spend any more time on this. There are no more hours in the day and we too have a family life. We will post makeup days for those who gave notice at the end of the summer. I would expect you to run your business the same way.

I see where 5 people have lost their lives in a rip current over the last couple of days. This is something I cover extensively with the swimmers who are old enough to understand.

If you get caught in a rip tide don’t fight it! Do not try and swim to the shore. If you can float or even swim parallel to the beach it doesn’t take much effort to get out. Just following the coastline till the current ends and you can swim
to shore when you get out of the current. I’ve personally been caught in two.

Here is a picture of a rip. This current will push you away from the shore. Just go sideways along the coast till the rip ends. You may have to walk a bit to get back to where you started but you won’t get washed out to sea.

Please tell everyone you know that is planning a trip to the beach. Make sure to avoid these areas if you see them. Always respect the red flags on a beach.

When you see me pushing water towards someone at the pool after they have learned to swim, we are not playing games. We are learning not to panic in a waterfall or current.

Had these people known this, we would have never heard about it on the news.

Wrapping up our first swim session I’m happy to say that everyone who has completed six lessons is swimming! Big thanks to everyone who put their trust in me! ❤️ it’s been a blast working with y’all! I’m gonna miss y’all!

We went ahead and canceled the morning classes. It’s been sprinkling here but it also gave me a little extra time to work on everything the gully washer took out of Friday.

When you come through the gate please stay to your left on the green astroturf. That area is uneven from everything underneath there being washed out. We keep fixing it, it just keeps raining.

I’m in the water now, if it gets cold or the weather looks bad here for the afternoon classes I’ll let y’all know shortly.

I’m looking forward to seeing everyone this week. We worked all day yesterday undoing what the rain did on Friday.

I’ll be posting updates on cancellations here in the event of storms. I was hoping Mother Nature would get this all out of her system but this is Arkansas. If we do have to cancel for stormy weather, please just pick another time that works for you. If it’s raining in surrounding areas I’ll let y’all know if it’s clear in our area.

Just a couple of quick reminders; please make sure to park on the road in front of our house and not the neighbors. Downhill from the mailbox before the gutter is the best spot. Please do not come more than ten minutes early for your lesson to avoid parking issues.

Only swimmers are allowed in the pool area. We ask everyone else to stay in the play area next to the pool. There are no exceptions to this. I have to focus on the person in the water who can’t swim yet.

There are plenty of toys if you have other kids with you. We create a fun and positive learning environment for everyone. Please don’t distract the kids during their lesson. If they are talking to you they are not focusing on the lesson. This is makes it VERY hard for them to learn and even harder for me to teach when they aren’t paying attention. If you need to talk to them I’ll bring them to the playground but we have to have 100 percent focus in the water. I really appreciate your understanding on this. Can’t wait to see y’all!
