The OU School of Dance welcomes BRANNDI LEWIS for a TEN day residency with Contemporary Dance Oklahoma. Throughout her time here she will create a brand new work for CDO on OU SOD dancers in addition to her teaching. We are so grateful to have her with us!!
Branndi Nicole Lewis is a South Florida–based choreographer, educator, and cultural leader whose work explores the nuances of the human experience, drawing from cultural, emotional, and societal landscapes that continually shape and inform her artistic practice.
Branndi’s choreographic career has been supported by fellowships, residencies, and commissions across the country. In 2023, she was named a Jacob’s Pillow Ann & Weston Hicks Choreography Fellow, followed by a 2024 Choreography Residency with The Black Artists Dance Collective. In 2025, she was selected as a Carmel Dance Festival Choreography Fellow and a choreographer for Dance Lab New York’s Fall Lab Cycle. In 2026, she was named the winner of Western Michigan University’s Choreography Competition. Her choreography has been commissioned by The Ailey School, Ballet Florida, Marymount Manhattan College, George Mason University, Western Michigan University, University of Oregon, Spelman College, the University of Florida, and other arts and educational institutions.Â
As an educator, Branndi spent over seven years as dance faculty at the Alexander W. Dreyfoos School of the Arts, where she taught and mentored emerging artists while developing her choreographic practice. She is a 2016 cohort member of The Ailey School’s Horton Pedagogy Program and holds a Bachelor’s of Science from the University of Florida. Across her work as a choreographer, educator, and arts leader, Branndi is committed to building sustainable opportunities for artists and creating spaces where dance can be experienced, developed, and shared.
