The votes are in! 🦅 After thousands of votes from the Sugar Bowl community, the Red-Tailed Hawk has officially claimed the top spot.

This year’s passholder beanie theme celebrates the wildlife that shares these mountains with us. Inspired by one of the Sierra Nevada’s most recognizable birds of prey, the winning design reflects our commitment to stewardship, sustainability, and protecting the place we call home.

Congratulations to local Truckee designer Jen Mitchell of Visual Theory Design. No stranger to the podium, Jen also won the 2024/25 passholder beanie design contest with her beloved blue mountain beanie.

For the past 8 winters, our community has voted to choose a design for the annual passholder beanie that feels uniquely Sugar Bowl. This year’s collection is inspired by the wild creatures that call Donner Summit home.

Three national awards. One independent ski area.

This winter, Sugar Bowl was recognized by the National Ski Areas Association for Best Use of Video, Best Guest Safety Program, and a national Sammy Award recognizing Kari Brandt’s leadership in mountain safety and risk management.

From the athlete-built culture of the Silver Belt to our uphill safety initiatives, these awards reflect the people, creativity, and mountain community that continue shaping Sugar Bowl.

The Silver Belt venue, located at the top of Mt. Lincoln. This was the site of the original 1940’s Giant Slalom race, which was been reinvented as a modern freeride event.
