🎓 THE MENTAL METAL ACADEMY IS GROWING!
Over the first eight lessons, we built a strong foundation designed to help detectorists understand not only which settings to use but why they matter. These lessons are available on my YouTube channel but supporting members have access to all 8 of them right now. https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC6_3Cp_6QbSK1qR4e9P2IGQ/
Here’s what we’ve covered so far:
1️⃣ Discrimination — How your detector accepts or rejects different targets and why too much discrimination can cost you good finds.
2️⃣ Sensitivity — Why maximum sensitivity isn’t always better and how to find the most stable setting for your conditions.
3️⃣ Recovery Speed — How quickly your detector separates nearby targets and the trade-off between separation, stability, and depth.
4️⃣ Ground Balance — How mineralized soil affects your detector and how Ground Balance helps reduce unwanted ground responses.
5️⃣ Search Modes — Why different programs are designed for different conditions and how to choose the right starting point.
6️⃣ Noise Cancel — How electrical interference can make your detector unstable and what to do when unwanted noise takes over.
7️⃣ Search Coils — How coil size and shape affect coverage, separation, weight, maneuverability, and performance.
8️⃣ Target Tones — How to begin understanding the audio language of your detector and make better decisions before you dig.
But we’re not stopping there.
The next phase of the Academy will focus on interpreting complete target signals, understanding Target IDs, recognizing iron falsing, improving sweep technique, pinpointing targets, recovering them responsibly, and bringing all your detector settings together.
📱 Supporting members also receive downloadable Mental Metal Academy Field Cards.
Each lesson’s Field Card is a smartphone-friendly reference designed to help you remember the key points while you’re actually out detecting. Instead of trying to recall an entire video in the field, you’ll have the essential information available right on your phone.
If you’re ready to become a more knowledgeable and confident detectorist, join us as a supporting member and build your personal Field Card collection as the Academy continues.
The goal has never been to rely on luck.
It’s to understand your detector, make smarter decisions, and give yourself the best opportunity to find what others leave behind.
