Cross-clipping happens when one boltsnap is clipped to another instead of the D-ring it was intended for.

On technical dives—especially with multiple stage or deco cylinders—this can lead to jammed boltsnaps when you need to detach a cylinder quickly.

That’s why cross-clip checks are part of a solid pre-dive routine.
A few seconds on the surface can save a lot of headache underwater.
