We want to provide an update for our Muskego Park patrons regarding the Yellow/Orange Trail corridor.

You may recall that last August’s severe storms caused significant damage to the trail, adding to other route failures and ongoing challenges over the years. After an extensive evaluation, it became clear that this route is not sustainable for the long term.

Much of the trail traverses wetland areas and has experienced persistent issues with water management, erosion, and trail degradation, making it increasingly difficult and resource-intensive to maintain.

After careful consideration, the Yellow/Orange Trail corridor has been permanently closed and will be restored to natural conditions.

We understand that changes to a familiar trail can be disappointing, and we don’t make this decision lightly. As we look to the future of Muskego Park’s trail system, plans are underway for a three-year initiative beginning in 2027 to improve and restore the park’s core woodland trail network. This work will focus on creating more sustainable trails, addressing erosion and drainage concerns, and enhancing the experience for park visitors while protecting the park’s natural resources.

We’re still in the planning process and don’t have specific details to share yet, but we’re excited about the work ahead and look forward to sharing more as plans develop.
