Drivers cannot react to a cyclist they do not see. Use a white front light and red rear light, wear bright or reflective clothing, and stay alert for turning vehicles, driveways, and unexpected movements.
Make eye contact when possible—but never assume a driver sees you. Be prepared to slow down or stop.
Be visible. Be alert. Be ready.

Drivers cannot react to a cyclist they do not see. Use a white front light and red rear light, wear bright or reflective clothing, and stay alert for turning vehicles, driveways, and unexpected movements.

🚴 Glassner Cycling Safety Series: Helmet Fit Matters

Wearing a helmet is important—but it must fit correctly to provide its best protection.

Before every ride, check that your helmet:

✅ Sits low and level, with about two finger-widths between your eyebrows and the front of the helmet
✅ Moves very little when you shake your head from side to side
✅ Has side straps that form a “Y” just below each ear
✅ Has a snug chin strap, leaving about ½ inch between the strap and your chin when your mouth is closed

Many riders wear their helmets tilted too far back or leave the chin strap too loose. Take a moment before every ride to adjust yours correctly. These recommendations follow the League of American Bicyclists’ helmet-fitting guidance.
